Tina Michelle just informed me that when she opened her packet of seeds it had weevils in it!!! ICK!!!! I am so sorry. If you have not already planted your seed, you should put the seed, in a plastic bag and stick it in the freezer for a couple days, to kill them. Again, I apolpgize to you if any of the nasty critters came your way!
I have a bunch of seed of mixed colors, pinks, red and a purple. If you would like some let me know.

Julia, will you answer a hollyhock question? Mine were growing just fine along the back fence of my veggie garden (for around 7 years) and doing their biennial thing happily till this year. Every fall I'd lay down the spent stalks so they'd reseed and they always did till this year. Even my 2nd year plants died this year. They seemed to be starting out ok in the spring and then just disappeared around the time the rest of the garden got going. Should I try again or do you think that soil just won't support them anymore?

Molly, I'm not sure why that has happened. It may be they need to find a new home. I learned this year about putting mushroom compost down and the hollyhocks never got the orange fungis and mildew that normally happens in the NW. Perhaps this fall you should ammend the soil with all kinds of yummy soil things and see if that would help. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help.
Your welcome Teresa and Lynn! Enjoy!!

ahhhh!AHHHH! it has happened again....sorry to reeport this but this is the 2nd time I have received a batch of hollyhock seeds from off of the forum here only to find them full of...gasp! gasp! uggh..weevils! ahhh weevils! I suggest that anyone receiving the hollyhock seeds stick them in the freezer for about 24 hrs. These ones I received were not around anything whatsover to obtain weevils here at my house they were left in the envelope I received them in for just 2 days right on my desk by my computer. I'm so sorry to report this Julia, but..umm you may want to sugeest that the gals that receive the hollyhock seeds from you do need to freeze them briefly to kill the weevils. I just got done killing 4 weevils from the package you sent. ..ughh..make then 5 and counting. so sorry to report this.

I automatically ziplock and put all seeds I get from friends, thru catalogs and from stores right in the freezer, and they stay there until planting time, I've been doing this for ever, and I've never had a problem. It might be a good habit to get into for all, just to be safe.
