Hello ladies :)

I was wondering if anyone has tried freezing these or Stuffed Peppers. I am the only one who likes them and thought if I could make them ahead of time and freeze them it would be easier to reheat from the freezer than cook two meals for dinner. I would appreciate any input :) Thanks!

I have never frozen cabbage rolls, but I do freeze stuffed peppers every year. I simply clean the peppers, saving the top. I use my best meatloaf recipe, stuff the peppers, replace the top and secure with a toothpick. Then wrap each individually, and I usually place two in a ziplock bag, and freeze. Then when ready to use, I place them in an ovenproof cassarole and bake, sometimes plain (with just a tad of water) and sometimes I add a little seasoned tomato sauce or something like a mild spaghetti type sauce.

I freeze my cabbage rolls. I've just put them in a freezer safe container and cover with tomato sauce (my family likes a lot of it) and freeze. I defrost on the counter then reheat in the oven.

Oooh! I have 6 lbs. of ground chuck that needs to be dealt with today. Perhaps I should do some rolling! Thanks for the idea.

By cabbage rolls do you mean the bread rolls with a meat/cabbage filling inside?

I love cabbage rolls...but my family doesn't! Who would have thought you could freeze them! I might make a batch just for me for work!

Alee...cabbage rolls don't have bread...you make a meat or meat/veggie filling and then roll it up inside a cabbage leaf. And then cook it till the cabbage is done. Some folks put tomatoe sauce or spaghetti sauce over the top. My Mom used to cook up the filling first before wrapping in steamed cabbage leaves or putting in a big bell pepper but I think some recipes call for the filling to be raw and then you cook the whole thing. She always put spaghetti sauce on ours.

Here's a website with some photos and a recipe (can't vouch for the recipe though..has bacon and saurkraut in it...but it has some nice photos...

Hi - I'm knew here and thought I'd jump in - I always freeze cabbage rolls in a single layer on a cookie sheet, then when totally frozen, scoop them up, put them in a plastic bag and freeze. You can take out as many as you want to use at a time. I keep the sauce in separate containers and freeze those too. Pam

In my neck of the woods we call Cabbage Rolls (sometimes referred to as Cabbage Burgers) as a dish sortof related to a pastie but make with homemade bread dough, then a ball of meat/cabbage/veggie mix is put in the center and the dough is pinched up around the mixture to make a roll and then backed. Yummy!!

So...I went to the bank this morning and of course there are side stands galore out there with a little bit of this/that of produce and I found this gianormous cabbage! It was so pretty...all light green and round...that I had to pull over. So...it's cabbage rolls today! I checked out the recipe that Calico Girl hipped us too but I think I'll go from what I remember with my own twist. Last weekend I bought some tomatoes/peppers/onions from the farm market and made a big batch of what I thought would be salsa. It seemed a little thin so I had my son bring up some store organic tomatoes but "crushed" meant more like sauce so my salsa turned into "sauce". BUT I made a great goulash with it last week...so I thought I try that over the cabbage rolls. I guess for the rest of my brood it'll be "porcupine balls" and noodles...sans cabbage. :-)

This is closer to the recipe I use. Very simple. We cover the rolls with tomato sauce & simmer until done. (I do sub instant brown rice for the cooked white rice).

Wish I could find my original recipe. I have a great potato pancake recipe that pairs nicely with this!

I'm Slovak and we call them stuffed cabbage. My Grandma on my Mother's side taught me to use tomato soup. My other Grandma put short ribs on the bottom of the roaster before putting in the stuffed cabbage and added some ketchup with the tomato soup. Either way...yum! And yes, I've frozen them many a time.

We make stuffed cabbage and all of the other Polish foods we can manage during the Christmas holidays. My husband does not like ANY of it (except pierogis and potato pancakes) so I make a lot and freeze most of it! I take little packages to work for lunch!
