I don't generally tend to be an overly emotional gal, but this article nearly brought me to tears and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I read it several days ago. It really struck a cord with me. I would really like to thank Janet Hurst for her words and for MaryJane and her crew for publishing it. My first year of farm life has not been the vision I had set in my head when I first moved out to the country. It has been full of ups and downs and recently I've been feeling like quite the failure. Reading this article turned all of that around for me. It left me inspired with hope in heart that it doesn't matter where I'm at, its just that I keep moving forward towards what I want. Afterall, we have come a long way in the last year considering we knew absolutely nothing besides what we read in a book. And compared to a year ago, we have made huge strides. It reminds me that life isn't about the destination, but the journey. Each day that I make a simple step towards that simpler, more wholesome farmgal lifestyle, is a day that I can feel contentment and fulfillment. Thank you again for such wonderful words!

I too loved that article. Sometimes I feel the same way, AlyssaMarie (PS We share the name Alyssa!!) I don't live on a farm, but sometimes in my daily mom and wife routine I start feeling more distant from the life I imagined. Then I look back and realize I am caring for and nurturing my family- what could be more important?! I love the way that we can each take Farmgirl into ourselves and make it into something that is unique and special.

It is a great article. It reminded me that all the little things I do each day, matter. That is blessed my daughter and in the end, myself. Being a homemaker is the greatest profession. Now that I have to go to work outside the home full time, I know I will miss my time to be home all day, doing the things I love, when I want to, how I want to. I am afraid that I will come home, weary of dealing with the craziness of the world, and all the household things will 'have to get done'. It makes me really sad to have to make the transition.
For tomorrow and its needs I do not pray, but keep me, guide me, love me, Lord just for today.

I read that article from top to bottom and really liked it too. We all have so much farmgirl in us, and we have to keep our eyes on the row ahead that needs plowin! I am glad you got re-inspired by it. I did too.

Julia: I so agree. I've never worked so hard in my life as I do now as a homemaker. And I've never been as rewarded ever. I too, loved that article. I feel so blessed that everyday is a MaryJane day for me. I used to wake up and expect disappointment, because I felt that's all I've ever known. Now, I wake up and I expect miracles and goodness, and that's all I now know!

Hi gals: I too loved the article. I want to share with you about a nationally-known quilter, Nancy Crow, whose husband was teaching agriculture. They lived in a big city and he decided to buy a farm. Nancy hated it and was so sad every day. Then one day she decided to start taking pictures of the sky. Over the seasons, she discovered that the sky was so beautiful and changed drastically every day. She realized that every day something was new and inspiring. Her sadness ended and she began to create contemporary quilts based on the sky....God's promises are new every morning. We are on thye journey. Happy thoughts.

Bonnie, what a great story. We live across from a large reservoir and I, too, have noticed how the colors of the water, trees, and sky are different every day and at different times during the day. I've often thought I should take a picture from the same vantage point every day for a year, but I didn't actually follow through - sounds like Nancy did, and it changed her life. What an inspiring story!

I think that article described most of us and our everyday "farmgirl" life, which is why it was so easy to relate to. I certainly saw myself in it. It almost brought tears to my eyes, as well.
