Well, one of my springtime traditions is spring cleaning, which, in a weird sort of way, I like - it's like getting a fresh start for the summer, and it helps me be able to focus my time outside during summer, knowing that "maintenance" is all I have to do inside!
I have always wanted to do something special each year to celebrate the vernal equinox - the "true" arrival of spring - but I am not sure what tradition to start. I'd like to have something that I/we/family can do each year that we look forward to. Hmmmm....I'll be thinking about this one!

I always look patiently for my first Robin. Then of course, the dreaded cleaning and washing of curtains, windows, etc. I always want to do something to celebrate the vernal equinox too! We have to think on that. I was all excited about the coming of spring, but it snowed all night and part of the morning - boo!

Like you Debbie, spring starts when I hear that first Robin. I love their song. When I was a little girl, we had 2 huge Maple trees in the front yard. they were outside my bedroom window. I can still here the RObin who made one of those trees home,announcing spring. I still makes me smile. One of my traditons is to read, 'Tasha Tudor's Garden'
by Tovah Martin; Elizabeth and her German Garden, by Elizabeth Von Arnim; An Island Garden by Celia Thaxter; and this year I added The Secret Garden, by Francis Hodgson Burnett. I pour though seed catalouges and spend a lot of time at my local nursery.
March- In like a lion, out like a lamb. That is what I am hoping for. We had high winds last night. This AM we had rain, wind, and hail.

Oh, SNOW there, TOO??? It snowed around 3 inches last night and this morning here, as well. Just as it was seeming that spring might have "sprung!" Oh well - I am just having to content myself with the fact that we need the water. I'm mulling the equinox celebration over...

We're birders, so we go birding a lot. Sometimes as a family but mostly, the girls and I just pick up and go. We are Blessed to live right in the funnel of all the species coming and going for their migrations.
We do our homeschooling outside almost daily when this wonderful weather returns. Of course, we're always distracted by some insect, bird or clouds drifting by overhead. I love just laying in the grass watching the clouds go by. It's fun to be there shoulder to shoulder with my girls. On the weekends, my hubby joins us in the grass.
I guess that's it for anything tradtion-like. Everything else we do is cleaning, planting, cleaning, raking, cleaning, etc....

Catherine, we homeschool as well and love being outside to do school work. Too wet, and cold here yet. Hope it warms up soon!

Usually I start pruning and doing cleanup from winter out in the yard. But every time I get a start the weather turns - heavy rain, snow, hail, wind - like Julia said March has come in like lion and I am waiting for it to calm down like a lamb. Got lots to do. Plus I also need to do some heavy cleaning inside - the dust is catching up to me.

FINALLY saw the first robins last Sunday! My whole yard was full of them.....they where just singing up a storm. I usually start off by doing the first 'Hanging of the clothes'...I'll change all the beds...wash all the bedding and hang it all out on the line. Nothing better then that!
That's the beginning of the Spring season for me!

I look forward to the return of the robins. They arrived here about 2 weeks ago. I also start making plans for Easter, which always includes deviled eggs and hard boiled eggs as a symbol of new life. I hope to get a clothesline this year as I haven't had one for awhile now and really miss it. I saw the most beautiful brilliant pink, red sunrise the other morning. Usually it's dark when I drive into work. I love seeing the change of the seasons including the suns coming and goings.
