OMG!!! I've been so busy for the last couple weeks I haven't been able to spend much time in my garden. When I got home from my last business trip the pumpkins had completely taken over!!! There must be about 20 - 25 in the patch right now. I have one that is completely orange, lots of big ones and countless small pumpkins. This is soooo exciting!! I've never grown pumpkins before and this is a lot of fun!

I'm planning to use some as jack o' lanterns and decorations, but mostly I am looking forward to canning a lot of pumpkin for pies and breads this winter.

How awesome Sarah!

I can't believe how slow our growing season is this year. Right now tomatoes and green beans are being harvested. I actually have an Apple tree just now blossoming!

So far for me I have one little pumpkin and some blossoms :( I'm glad to hear that you are having success with your garden.

Thanks Sharon!!! I ought to send you a pumpkin. If they weren't so big and heavy I would put one in a box and mail it to you. Since that seems impractical, I'll just send a jar of canned pumpking when it's ready. :) You deserve it for being so patient with me.

Sarah, in order to have a few really nice pumpkins you will have to cull the others, remove all but just 3-4 per vine and those will be nicest, as the pumpkins mature put them on piles of straw to keep them from bottom rot.

Thanks Teresa! I had read that about "culling" the pumpkins, but I hadn't thought about the rot. I will take care of that asap.
