Are any of you out there adopted kids and have a farmgirl background? I was and I really miss being on the farm. Mary Jane has given us an opportunity to connect. She's great! I'd love to hear from you.

I'm not adopted, however I was adopted into a family in Idaho (unofficially) while I lived there. They are awesome people and Nora calls them Grandma and Grandpa right along with my parents and Doug's parents. I am so fortunate to have people in my life with so much love to give. And their ranch gave me the opportunity to be around the animals I love and have much needed injections of country life!

I was adopted at the age of 8 after my single mom passed away un-expectidly. I was blessed that my life was always filled with farm life. A couple who have been my God-Parents all my life where very much into rodeoing (he was also Native American) so I learned/learn much through them. The family I was adopted into ~ the family was in Wheat farming as was the whole community around us. Then I married into a Wheat farming family. My husband then branched out and works in the carrot industry ( Bolthouse Farms where they grow carrots and make juices and salad dressings etc). I love that I have always had the rural life, it has been the stabilizing thing for me.

i was also adopted as an infant from a catholic orphanage. i was raised by 2 "city folks" in a small town environment and just somehow caught the farm bug on my own.
all of my dads folks for 5 generations were carpenters and i do think i learned from my dad about reusing or recycling items. he was a renaissance fellow for sure as i think most farmers have to be.

To all of you. It's so exciting to hear your stories. I was adopted at 7 months to two city folk who happened to have come from a farm in southeastern Iowa. Thanks to my uncle Bill who gave me the best years of my childhood of his farm. When I found my natural dad's family they were truck farmers and my cousin has holsteins. More great times! They are still nurturing this old 67-year-old-gal who is nuts about Mary Jane's whole concept. Thanks. Keep the stories coming in.

This is a great topic. I was not adopted, but I do not think this subject has come up ever before here! And to hear form you who were adopted is a great blessing. Family comes from love. And it is so inspiring to hear from girls who have found that love.

I too was adopted from a catholic orphanage. I was about 6. My adoptive parents were from a town of about 35,000. My mom's relatives were farmers, my father's were carpenters and printers. My birth family were farmers, and raised horses for the circus and harness racing. I have always been very different from my adoptive family. I have wonderful siblings, and we are close. But, I am the one who goes back in time to the simpler living. I did find all of my birth siblings, and wonderful to understand now why I was so different from adoptive family. I'm content now, and able to be myself..a country girl at heart and at life.

I was adopted also, but the end result was not as happy as the ones I've read. My stepfather adopted me so that I would have the same name as the rest of the family when he claimed me on his tax form. At least that was what my Mom told me.
My Mother's parents were farmers and I loved that life. I often wanted to be able to live with them, but my parents didn't think it was a good idea. We lived in the Panhandle of Nebraska. Grandpa's farm was an all around farm. He grew beef, pigs, and chickens and also raised wheat, potatoes, barley, oats, and millet. His crops changed from year to year. I still miss that life. It was much calmer.

I am not adopted but 5 of my 7 kids are. Adoption is a wonderful way to build a family. I can't imagine my life without a single one of these guys!

It is fun to hear the similarities and the differences in each story. I too spent time in the orphanage in CA when my mom went through a patch where she couldn't care for me. She did get me back after almost 2 years (ages 2-4) were in the orphanage... I don't recall it being anything except a positive experience as home life was a little rough at best. I never really "jelled" with my adopted mom and her biological daughter - I was always the "girl from the wrong side of the tracks" but I have been grateful that I was brought up in a clean and physically safe environment
Family is what you make it. I think you can build family anyway one needs to. The girls that I call sisters NONE of us have the same parents... and brothers are the same. I have been immensely blessed with strong women who have mothered me and taught me to be a strong and able woman.
I too have one adopted child~ although, I believe that he was "created" for me and just brought through another vessel. He is mine-heart and soul. In my adopted family I am still defined as "The adopted daughter" which; always sounded like It was meant to seem like I was a lesser part... like a 1/2 of something... I don’t have adopted children and then children... I just have children... some God gave me through birth and some through adoption but all meant for me to mother. I also have a couple that while aren't legally mine... they are MINE.
I have learned that MOST of us (now as adults) don't get ALL that we need or want from our parents ~ the challenge is taking what they DO have to give and building on with that. I think we need better titles in the English language to define others that pour into our lives in such powerful ways. I choose labels like "heart friends" (friends that are more than friends) and God parents (a couple that I believe God sent in my darkest moments) and Yaya (women who mothered me)// and so on.
Maybe that is why I like the "title Farmgirl" and wear it proudly... it means more than just girls, or acquaintances, more like "homeys"... We have the same heart.... and that is a powerful thing.

| i wasnt adoted but always felt i was i didnt "fit" and at 54 yrs old still dont! my 3 children are all adopted and couldnt be more "mine" had i given birth! peace connie in alaska |

I have 3 children of which one is adopted. She is a total gift to our family. We picked her up at 36 hours old! The neat thing is: my best friend is apopted, my nephew is adopted and my oldest biological daughter's best friend is adopted !!!!!
I have been asked ---do you love your adopted daughter as much as the biological children...our answer is, we forget she is adopted. !!! Thanks for the topic. |

We adopted our beautiful boy Oliver. We were so blessed to have been given the gift of this precious boy. He is the absolute love of our lives and we too forget that he is adopted as he is just our Oliver. We have had Oliver since one hour after he was born. Now we believe that we are meant to adopt older children. we would love to have our big 'ol house full of the pitter patter of little feet!

I was never adopted, but put into foster care at 13, went through some not so good homes, graduated HS and had a son soon after. Never had much of a family- until my kids came alone. I chose to remain a single mom on purpose, though engaged 5 times. I finally married 4 yrs ago to a man that's an absolute rare gem. I love my kids SO much, without them, I never would of had a life. I have the family now, with my husband, kids and dogs, and I'm content.

Connie: "It's never to late to have a happy childhood" says some notepaper I have. I have never stopped being a kid in some ways. But Connie I am so happy for your family now and all your kids and dogs. Play with your kids and release your creative and child-like side.

i was adopted- went to live with my new family at age 4 months-
was raised in suburbia outside of cleveland, ohio----no farmin-just small flwoer beds and veggie gardens!!!
however; 10 yrs ago i found my birth mom and later my birth dad--mom was raised as a farm girl and she owns 90 acres up here in northern michigan-horses all have gone to heaven and last fall the piggies got butchered- she got rid of her chickens but wants more next spring....between her house and mine, we have 7 dogs and she has barn kitties....
i feel very blessed to have found her and to have a great outcome; however, i know that not all adoptees are so fortunate. both of my adopted parents have passed away so i did nothing to besmerch (sp????) their hearts or memories.
farming IS a matter of the heart as i have been a closet farmgirl all of my life!!!!!

God blessed our family with 4 children (two adopted daughters from Korea & 2 were our foster sons). I so longed to have children to hold and love (had dealt with 6+ yrs of infertility), so I'm so thankful to be able to have a family. I don't see my kids as adopted & don't see them as being of a different race (though I have tried to honor their Asian heritage, even though neither of my girls seems interested, but maybe someday they will & at least they know I've tried). They're my kids to the core of my heart and I love them more than they'll ever know.
