OK, I am now the thistle queen, they have overtaken my veggie and flower gardens...any organic advice besides hands and knees and body armor?

Sorry, don some gloves and a sharp shovel to get the whole root or most of it.
We fight the battle of pokeweed and that smelly jimpsonweed. Even the tiny plantlets reek.
I pluck the seed pods before they can spread and burn them just before they open, and are dry enough to not smell when cut. |

It might help to know that if you have goldfinches in your part of the country, they love thistle seed
I'd love to put some in a bird feeder, but DH has put his foot down on this issue for your same reason |

Try a HULA hoe it cuts them off at ground level. I do about 15 min work a day with it and has really stopped the weeds.

We had a terrible thistle problem in our yard when we moved here 7 years ago. Every day through the sprring/summer/fall, my husband would go outside and dig them completely up. We have an acre lot, so it took about 2 years, but he got rid of them for good! They are horrible & spread quickly. Good luck eradicating them from your garden.

Thistle is my kryptonite! I can't get anywhere near it because I'm allergic to it like most people are to poison ivy or oak. Hurts like the dickens, welps me up and swells horribly for days. I once brushed up against it accidentally and it hurt so bad, I started crying like a baby, and the hubs tossed me in the freezing cold pool! That actually helped, so now if I happen to get too close, I put a freezer pack on it and that takes some of the sting away. But the way I get rid of it is to use the hubs.
