Does anyone know how to dig up Palmetto roots?
I have these palmetto bushes growing in places I know I did not plant them. Armadillo's are making holes that go on forever under the palmetto's. It took me four days to cut all the palmetto fans off the bush. Now the big root ball is sticking up and looking rather ugly. How does one get rid of that? I would guess maybe try to pull it out with a car. If anyone has an idea, please let me know. Thanks.

Dig as deep as possible trench around root balls, wrap a HD tow chain around root ball, then hook to hitch on truck, make sure no one is close, have plenty of loose chain to get running start, and go. If anyone around you has a tractor, pull it with that, and the best would be a backhoe. Be careful, if the chain breaks and hits someone, it will kill them.

Be careful not to pull your car apart too.

After thinking about his Teresa, I don't think I dare do it. Only because I'd have to uproot half of my yard. ROFL
There are two huge palmetto root balls in front of my house, and I am sure about ten in the back yard. Gee--- we'd have to bring in truck loads of dirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh. Thannks for the suggestion.

Marly why don't you try to find a stump removal service in your area after you have cut down most of the palmetos I would think that a stump removal service could come in and grind up the stumps for you.I'd check into that option..yes a bit costlier probably than you were thinking..but a safer route to go too than trying to drag stumps out via car/truck and chain.good luck to you.

Tina: I don't think my brain is working. I should have thought of that. Maybe my brain realized what the cost what be! I do have a note to call the tree service to come and trim five huge oak trees. I'll get them to give me a price on removing the palmetto roots.
