Hey, everyone! I'm new to this board, and new to my area. I just moved from AZ to upstate NY last summer. I grew up in the country but spent 23 years in the city. Now I have about 5 acres! I am starting from scratch here - the land has been neglected hayfield - but this spring will install honeybee hives and hope to have product for sale by summer 2007. We also adopted 6 laying hens a week ago - despite the cold those brave girls are turning out an average of 3 eggs a day.Anyway, I'm happy to be here!

Ooooh - honeybees and hens! What fun! Rosie, welcome to the farmgirls...I think you'll have loads in common with the gals here.

Welcome, Rosie!!

Congrats on your 5 acres. It sounds like you've got some work ahead of you, but, your farmgirl spirit will conquer all!! That's a pretty big climate change going from AZ to NY. Have you gotten the feel for planting seeds in NY?

I look forward to chatting with ya'.

Blessings
Catherine

Hi Rosie, where the heck is White Creek? your bees and chickens sound like so much fun. I have longed for both for quite some time...that is awful brave of them to keep layingit has been so down right cold here in NY. Wouldn't mind if there was snow...anyway, Welcome! Sounds like you will be right at home here with all of these other farm minded gals :)

Welcome Rosie!! Sounds like you are getting started right..and that you got hens with the RIGHT attitude...I love it!! I think bees are so interesting and wish i could have some here..but I am real allergic so I guess it is out. Youngest daughter is doing a big 3rd grade project on Honey bees and I am learning as much as she is I think!!

Thanks for the nice welcome! It's going to be great to have like-minded women to chat with! Rosebud, White Creek is tucked up in the foothills of the Green Mountains, next to the Vermont border. The closest "larger" NY town would be Hoosick Falls.

Good morning Rosie and welcome to our community. You'l like it here, so many interesting gals doing so many fun things!
I think chickens are the tops and always the first farm animal to start with. I'm waiting on bees, but can't wait to get started with them. I have to get all my ducks in a row first (well, and get some ducks!)and get moved into our new place. It is so much fun to plan out where everything will be and work best. Keep us up updated.

Life is good!
