Hi everyone,

I'm planning a 2nd annual Victorian Tea to help raise money for Shared Hope International, an agency dedicated to helping free and take care of victims of the sex-slave industry world-wide.

At the tea, I'm planning to sell embellished hats as Easter bonnets, to raise some additional funds. I'm looking for vintage, straw, felt, or other hats in good condition that I can alter into pretty bonnets. If you have any hats you are looking to get rid of, or any old Easter bonnets you no longer need, I'm sure I have something you'd like to barter for! I collect vintage linens, as well as candle pieces, candles, altered artwork, etc. Please let me know if you're interested in a barter. I need these hats no later than March 18th in order to have time to prepare them for their big transformation!

Thanks,
-Joy

What a great charity tea. I don't have any hats to send, but it is such a good idea, and it will be fun to decorate them, too. Best of wishes and I hope the tea is a success!

Hi Libbie,

Thanks! I hope it will be fun. I love to plan events like this, especially "prissy" things like a tea! I'm hoping people will dress up~I'm giving a prize for the most embellished hat. :) I'll try to get some pictures and post them on my blog.

Take care!

Joy,

Wish I had some hats to send you too. I used to have so many - now I have my straw hats for gardening & my baseball caps for hiking and bad hair days!!! Will have to restock and start a new trend here in North Idaho!

Maybe you could let us know in advance next time, Joy, and we could all get together and send you a decorated or vintage hat we find in thrift shops as a donation. That would be fun! When is the event?

Thanks ladies! Yes I will keep it in mind to ask earlier next time. I do have a few vintage hats that I can re-make, and I think I'll look for some basic straw ones at KMart tomorrow. I really procrastinated on planning this event this year! I hope it will still be fun~I'll post some pictures if I remember to bring my camera to the tea. I always have great intentions, but if I don't write things down, out they go! :)

I'm not sure how to post pictures here on the forum, but if any of you are interested, I did post a picture of some of the Easter Bonnets my friend Pam and I worked on today. I'm really pleased with the way they came out! :) Check them out of my blog...

I love the hats, Joy! We should start a trend. I've just begun to explore making vintage hats. Stu's Mother was manager of a milinary factory in Milan in the 40s. Sigh.

Oooh, I would LOVE to learn to make a hat from scratch. I did some research on this a couple of years ago but it seemed like I would need a lot of equipment...which I would actually be willing to invest in, if I had someway to learn firsthand how to do it. Learning for me is always much easier when I can see and do, not just read about it. Maybe we could organize an embellished vintage hat swap? Wouldn't that be fun?!

I think that's a great idea! I'm making all vintage items for sale (kids clothes, hats, home goods, etc.) There are several commercial patterns available that can be adapted. Vogue has a whole lot. I bought a couple to work on. I'll let you know how I do. Doesn't look too hard. Need to buy buckram somewhere, tho. Also, I bought a plain cloche-type hat pattern that I plan to make from good wool felt and embellish 30s style. I love those old hats. I have some photos of my Mom and aunts wearing them that I'm going to try to re-create. Well, should we put "vintage hat swap" on the list of projects to do, farmgirls? Then we can wear them at Farm Fair. I'm planning on wearing all vintage clothes. DH would sigh and say, "here comes projects #93Q".
