When I was a teenager growing up on the farm, my parents got me two books by Helga Sandburg (daughter of poet Carl Sandburg.) One was 'Blueberry' and the other one 'Gingerbread'.
These books told the story of a tomboy growing up on the shores of Lake Michigan with two older sisters, horses, goats, lambs geese, etc. but mostly horses. Her mother ran a farmstyle restaurant and the neighbor was a Polish truck farmer.
I read these books over and over again from cover to cover.
Somehow I managed to lose them moving around in my twenties, but luckily I was able to get copies of them through used book stores. They are out of print now.
Did these books 'move' anyone else the way they did me? Does anyone else remember them?
I've never heard of them before, but they sound absolutely charming. Isn't it amazing the impact books can have on our lives? There are several that I read again and again like you read these, and they really add to the quality of our lives growing up.
