I'm not sure of the proper names, but here is what I can tell you about some of them...
The bias tape makers are handy to make binding for blankets

Could the bias tape thingy be a Braid AId for braiding rugs? Looks like somethiing I have

I think these are used for making braided coiled rugs. I recall seeing these in old McCall's Needlework magazines in the late 50s and early 60s. They may have inspired the bias makers.
I have the bias makers, and they are similar. They have a small removable piece of stiff wire which holds the fabric in place. The technique is the same. You cut a strip of fabric about four times the width of your desired finished folded bias binding and feed it through the metal cone, which folds the two outer edges. If you're making bias binding, you press them into place.
To make the rugs, you thread all three cones, then braid and fasten the ends together, alternately folding and braiding. I don't know if the fabric strips for the rugs had to be bias cut.
Is the metal piece a solid rod, or hollow? Does it have any slits or holes? Is that a stain on the handle, or a name?

The ends are hollow and 1/4" in are grooves, no name just stained. There is a metal hook piece too. Yes, it is a mystery. Fun revealing what they are.
I'll post whatever I don't keep in the barter section. There was a cute brass needle holder ( I'm keeping), lots of thread some on wooden spools. I'll put all the pic. on my blog.

Carol, I was thinking the bias tape things might be Braid Aid tools as well.
The ones I have are a little different, but they're not very old. Maybe these could be an older version?
Gee...gets me thinking that I should at least try making a braided rug, I do have most of the supplies except the fabric.

I bought my set of Braid Aid at a garage sale in the original box thinking I was going to braid a rug. It's on my list of things to do!! Rosemary describes pretty well how it works. It was a fun find.

I think they are braid aid tools too. I have a set. Mine look the same.
Hey sue...how the heck did you do the neat little bubbles with writing for labeling the items? I have never seen anywhere that explained THAT..how cool!!

They are very similar. Honestly, I had never heard of Braid Aids until today, but now I may just have to get some! LOL!
Jenny, I copied the picture into a graphics program and added the boxes and text. It's really easy to do if you have the right program to work with.

I believe the wooden handle item is a screw driver for hex head screws. Kind of what you might have on an older sewing machin or serger to hold the needle in place.
I remember seeing all these things in my great grandma sewing box.

Yeah Sue...that was pretty nifty adding in the text on the photo.
I use my bias tape makers a lot too. VERY handy..no more singed fingers from getting them too close to the iron in pressing. Now if I could only sew the tape on neatly I'd be all set. |

Sure, I have a few left and will send it all together. I was still looking for those extra bias tape and lace. Also, I found some vintage ric-rac and single bias tape at an Antique store going out of business. The price was way high so I told her to see what was the best she could do and call me. So, I was hoping she will call today or tomorrow and if you are interested in them, we can add those to the tradeing. There were 8 ric-rac and 10 bias tape all different colors.
Let me know if you are interested and I'll wait and send your package out Monday. Otherwise, I'll send what I have tomorrow.
