I paid $1.00 for this dresser! I have it by my washer and dryer. I think the pulls were $1.50 each and $6.00 in paint.

I love this one...The cabinet was $2.00 and the doors I bought a few weeks ago for $4.00. I did have to frame a bit to make them fit. I haven't decided what to do with this one. I am thinking extra pillows in the top and antique quilts on the bottom.

Don't you just love auctions!

Beautiful! How creative!

I love the pulls on the black dresser.Did you luck out and find doors that perfectly fit the other piece?

They both turned out great. Don't you just love when you can makeover something that no one wants and then it becomes something everyone loves.

Beautiful job on both of those, very inspirational, though I never go to auctions any more. However this will be a good excuse...

Lisa, you inspired me. I went yesterday and bought a antique wardrobe. It was in a big need of a makeover. I have a question. What exactly did you do? I am supposing you sanded it down. Did you put on a primer before you painted it? Any helpful tips would be great!

I just keep coming back to look at the cabinet again and again!! I have never thought to take before and after pictures like you did. I just love what you saw in that cabinet other than sending it to the dump. And to think you had the doors already. Once again "really great job on both pieces!"

I'm inspiring? Wow thanks, you don't know how much that means! Questions...ok. Did I scrape the cupboard/armoire down? No. It was covered with wallpaper, really. I just peeled like four layers off. I did lightly scrape the loose paint off, but I wanted that old chippy look, so I did not prime. I lightly covered the front with one layer of acrylic outdoor paint to "seal" the chippy paint and make everything match somewhat, but it is light so that the chips will show through.

The chest of drawers, I did sand lightly to roughen up the finish. I then primed with BIN and then spray painted the black on, using three or four very light coats so that it wouldn't run. If you prefer not to use spray paint, you can paint and sand with very fine paper and get a pretty consistent, brush stroke-free finish. Lots of elbow grease though!

Please post pictures of all your projects, I can't wait to see!

Smiles,
Lisa

Oh man, am I glad I ask you about sanding! I would have just sanded away. I would not thought you could spray paint and get that kind of result.
I will look for BIN (whatever that is) and spray paint!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

Yes, what is BIN? I'm re-doing a dresser for my daughter, but I've got everything sanded off. Except for the groves and tight spots. I have an electric palm sander so there wasn't too much elbow grease! But I'm afraid I'll have to use it for the small stuff. I'm going to brush paint tho..

BIN is a spray primer, I think KILZ makes a similar product. Just primer in a spray can. They have it in a can also, but may leave brush strokes if you spray paint over. Good luck!
