Hi girls, after reading in the lifebook about darning socks, i found a vintage wooden sock darner, along with vintage wooden kitting needles on ebay. I havent gotten them yet, but am excited. Has anyone ever darned socks?

I darn hand knit ones sometimes. I love my wooden darning "egg" thing.

My mother used to darn our socks when we were kids..40 years ago or so. I have a collection of the wooden darning eggs in my sewing room. I love anything vintage sewing. Buttons, needle books, pincushions, sewing boxes etc. This stuff is addictive Connie! Enjoy.

My mom taught me to darn socks. This is what I did in the evenings after homework, while she did hand mending. My husband learned to darn from his mother. She also taught him to sew on buttons, and use her sewing machine. She passed away when he was 13. He and I both darned our socks for a few years when we were first married. I am blessed to have my mom's darning egg. To me it is a family heirloom. I also have her mom's button hooks.

There is something peaceful about darning socks or any garmet that you wish to add more life into - I have several different one's that I have collected over the years and each has a purpose. For those of us who darn our possesions it is our way of cherishing our things and remembering those who taught us. Enjoy.

I darn socks!!! My friends think I am weird because I do. . . however, I do not need to spend money on new ones the way they do!

I was so fortunate to receive my Nana's darner. Also picked up a few from different places I have shopped as well. Love to use it.

My DH darns his socks! He loves the wooden darning egg that I gave him a long time ago. I also have one and so does my good friend Kathy...she keeps in her purse and every once in a while takes it out and holds it in her hand...her grammy used to darn socks...

I received my vintage sock darner & knitting needles today. Don't know how to knit, but will learn someday. I just love vintage items. My older son picked up the sock darner and started shaking it, thinking it was a maraca!

Hi Connie!
My darners are just like yours! One is white, one is black and the other is natural. They hold up great. I use them for patching small holes in jeans too.
