I am still in Southern Michigan. We have been busy with summer activities :) Getting ready to make a trip to the U.P. :)
I just signed up with a hand spinning challenge, Tour De Fleece, Milking goats and making cheese and yogurt and planted some raised beds this year.
Where is the Lavender Festival?

http://michiganlavenderfestival.net/contact-us/ It is at Blake's Orchard in Armada. It's a bit of a drive for us (around an hour) but I took the kids a few years ago and they are still talking about how much fun they had.

Evening Michigan Farmgirls...this is sister #237 from Northern Michigan (Brethren, MI). This has been a hard year, I have only managed to plant 1 tomato plant. Due to unforeseen circumstances my family has gone haywire and my health has gone downhill for a while. But the good news is I purchased at 1984 motorhome - I know it's not a vintage camper - but it should be, I need to completely revamp the inside, I'm just hoping that this thing counts. I started he Michigan Farmgirl chapter quite a while ago and I have apologize for not following through, but I see that someone else has filled the gap and I am so glad. I would love to hear from all of you, especially those who live in the Manistee area (I do know of one Farmgirl and I'm proud of her).

Have a great July 4th...

Erin, the Lavender festival sounds like fun... I might take my monsters up there and check it out. Thanks for the information. Sandra, where did you sign up for the tour de fleece? I have a drop spindle that I'm still trying to learn how to use. Have a safe trip to the U.P. Linda, sorry to hear things have been difficult. Glad to see your back with us!!! Can't wait to see pictures of your camper.

I am crazy busy with the kids. Gearing up for the OAKLAND COUNTY FAIR. It starts tomorrow on the 4th of July and runs trough the 14th. The kids are showing poultry and other projects in the Ellis barn. I also entered too many projects. Made myself crazy at the end! You can just google "Oakland County Fair 2013" to get the low down on the schedule. Lots of derby action at night, Nashville in the neighborhood(new this year), the rodeo etc. Not to mention the carnival and rides, animals and a lot of other attractions. There will be fireworks on the 4th. It's a very nice fair so come and share it with us. It's in Davisburg which is, I'd say between Pontiac and Flint.
I have chicks hatching right now as we speak. I took a chance on several batches of eggs on ebay. All in all I was disappointed as the majority of them , when candled on day 7 and 14, did not have any life inside. But there are 6 so far and more cracked-none of which we have in our flock.

And.....we bought two Nigerian Dwarf Doelings yesterday. We will get them after the fair. The kids are very excited and hope to show them next year.
The garden is a jungle thanks to all of the rain - and the fact that I cram too much in there. We've had radishes, loads of greens and a pepper so far. Plus a nest of baby bunnies in the lettuce again for the second time. They were very cute.
Other than that I'm taxi-ing the kids around and enjoying having them home.

Does anyone have any exciting canning projects going on? We just bought some strawberries and I'm looking forward to making them into jam this weekend and as soon as my Clear Jel gets here we are going to make some pie filling this year.

HorseyChick, good luck at the fair!!! I'm entering the Wayne county fair for the first time this year. I only entered 1 item as I didn't know what to expect. Sounds like you have your hands full this summer! :o)

Erin, I haven't gotten my canner out yet this year... Been so busy with other stuff. But I think that I'm going to make some pie filling also. I did get over to my mom's and got about 12 cups of black raspberries. I tossed them in the freezer till I can get some time. I heard that the blueberries in my neck of the woods are going to be ready near the end of the month. So I need to get geared up to get those.

Thanks for posting the information on the Lavender Festival, we live just a little ways from Armada and I did not know about it. Maybe I will stop by tomorrow and see what it is all about!

Wear your sisterhood badge if you are there and if I spot it I will stop and chat!

Hi Amy, Welcome to the group. This group is an all over Michigan group. As long as your in Michigan you are welcome! We don't do anything as of yet... I mean we have had one or two meet-ups. But for the most part we just come in here and share what's going on in our lives. By the way I'm Rachel (Yart) down south of Detroit in Wyandotte. I am in the process of restoring a 1968 Frolic camper and just purchased a 1997 Starcraft, so Glamping is definitely on the horizon. I do quite a few crafts as do a lot of the women in this group. But with most things its summer and most aren't on here. It will pick back up once the kids go back to school!

I got on the Chapter site, selected a chapter near me but it came back that the email back failed. Does that mean the chapter doesn't exist anymore? I sent a request for A Michigan Forum Chapter hope to hear from you soon.

A little about myself: I work full time outside of my home, in my early 50's. I love to crochet and I am learning to knit and quilt. Want to learn how to tat also.
I do some gardening, mainly flowers. I am have been trying my hand at vegtables and herbs the last few years. Can't wait to retire.

Okay so last week was so cold I had to cancel my kid's swimming class and this week we are back in the 90's! Such a weird summer. Has anyone gotten any canning done? My kids and I have gotten quiet a bit done over the weekend.

I canned 21 pints of applesauce from our Yellow Transparents - the fresh apples don't keep for any time at all. Looking forward to apple pie season when more varieties are ready!

Green beans is all I have canned so far. It seems like it is taking forever for my tomatoes to turn red.

Wow sounds like some awesome canning projects! I'm going to try and get some tomato stuff done this weekend but I'm not sure what's really going to happen. If I had been smart I would have gone to the farmer's market today and gotten a half bushel of tomatoes and forced myself to do it tomorrow when I know I'm going to have time. Does anyone have an absolutely can't forget to make this recipe they would like to share? So far the only recipe we love more than anything is for plain ol' strawberry jam.

Hey,everyone!
How is your new year going so far? I am officially a farmgirl :) Moved last fall to a farm in need of loving which it has been getting. Anyone help me out with some very inexpensive ways of putting in deer fencing? This is new to me and we have deer who have been in the garden area here for a few years and it's a large(huge) area. I have to get fence up before we can plant come spring.
