Has any one done this;
I think it may have been on this subject before
I am thinking on trying my hand at it this fall
I have a large tilting, quilting frame I had made.
( that is a story in itself)
but,
I hurt to bad in my back , neck and shoulders to use it now.
I was watching a movie on Hallmark . last night called
Mending Fences.
The Grandmother was quilting the blocks in a frame ; like hand embroidery.
Yall know what I mean ; I think,
so,
Anyone tired it yet?
Let me know what you thought about it.
Is it easier ; or harder? hugs sheila

HI Sheila,
I have a quilt I am doing that way right now. I love it! It is ever so much easier than trying to quilt it all in a huge frame and keeping it smooth. I have a great website that shows exactly how to do it. Super easy and results are so pretty! :)The site is : http://www.quilterscache.com/H/howtoquiltoneatatime.html

Thanks Jessie.
I am so glad you sent that link
I had it but, can't find it and forgot the name of the sight.
I went to Mom's and printed out the instructions.
They look really easy
The best part is ; you can do this any where and not have to sit at a frame.hugs sheila

I dont baste each square, but thats because I am doing hand embroidery. I am embroidering through the front and batting. It holds the batting in place well, and then I just pin the back fabric when I got to do the quilting part. :)

Hi gals,
When I took my first quilting class in college (it was an art credit) We did what was called lap quilting...it was 12x12 or one ft. squares and quilted each before joining. It was much easier to me than quilting the whole thing at once.

I just bought this book and it looks simple to me.
She puts sashing around each block as you see. I think it's a great free tutorial...so I bought the book.

Thanks, so much for sharing that website, Jessie. I just spent quite a bit of time going deeper and deeper into it. The tutorial was great! And, the alzheimer project is fascinating! I plan to get that book.

Glad you like it Judith. It was super helpful when I was trying to find out how to do the quilt as you go. The instructions and illustrations made it so easy to follow.:)
