Has anyone been watching the new show about the family in Alaska. We have seen both episodes so far and really enjoy it. It is so beautiful there!

We would love it. My husband is a small engine plane pilot and he really enjoyed it. I used to want to live in Alaska, but now I don't think I could take the cold. I read a book once and can't remember the name of it. It was in the late 70's. It was a true story about a young family that moved to the Mt.McKinley area, built their log cabin and basically lived off the land. It was really rough, but I was so in awe of the lifestyle.

It is beautiful there, my daughter goes there at least every 18 months for a week or so, and backpacks. You don't want to go in the summer thou, the skeets will eat you alive. She loves the plane trip to the glaciers and they land on them and walk about on the side of Mt McKinley (sp?), she howls with the wolves and takes the most beautiful photos of the wildlife and plants. She has also gone on the sled dog trips and would love to see them race in the winter. A beautiful , but very unforgiving land.

I have no idea what show you're talking about, but I've been to Alaska, and can safely say it's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been...and I've travelled quite a bit. I'd go back in a heartbeat. We went end of May, mid June, during their "white nights"...boy is that something! I've never had such energy at 3 am. We did a 3 week hike, kayak, camp trip, my friend Kristin, her brother Judd and I. Sooo much fun. Saw bears, seals, moose, and tons of birds. We also took a float plane out of Juneau to an old hunting lodge (built by a friend of Teddy Roosevelt's) on the "hole in the wall" glacier. It's an amazing sight! I think I ate fresh grilled salmon almost every day I was there...and some of the towns have such wonderful tastes of Russian architecture. My favorite little spot was Haines, Alaska, though. Once a WWI outpost, it was this lovely little Edwardian village sitting on a bay, bordered by a temperate rain forest. All the houses were white Victorians, and it just looked so clean and picture perfect. There was a bar, a market and a diner. What more could you ask for? The hike through the rain forest was so interesting...it was a flora and fauna tour, and I could hardly believe that in Alaska, there would be these large, tropical looking plants that were straight out of a jungle somewhere below the Equator.

Anyway, that's my review :) If you ever get the opportunity, you should go for sure!

RFD stamds for Rural Free Delivery. Originally it was delivering mail daily to the rural people daily. The government said it could not be done economically at first, but it became a success and now everyone gets mail. I am not sure how it got from mail to a television program. It's only available on cable or sattelite. The entire show 24/7 is about horses, cattle, farming, tractors, country living, etc. It has some good shows, I just don't like the chemical/fertilizer part that sometimes comes on.

We have cable, but maybe it's not available to every provider? I'll have to call our provider and see. That's what it's called, though--RFD? So I sound like I know what I'm talking about when I call to inquire :)

The show is called R5Sons (I think I have that right) Its only shown two episodes so far. It's about a family that has a dude ranch/western bb and they have five sons. It shows the experieces that go on there. It has lots of wildlife and scenery. One of the boys is a pilot and you get see things from that perspective. I haven't tried googleing it , but I bet there's something there.

We don't get anything on our TV since the "Big Switch". I loved watching programs like that. I recently read a book entitled "Journey to a Dream", by Mary T Lovel. It's about a family in the late 60's who moved to Sherman, Alaska...population 6 (all their family). It is a very good book.
