I'm going to try to make school clothes for my 3 kiddos this year--I usually buy all their clothes at yard sales and end up with lots of pieces that can be interchanged, therefore lots of laundry, but not wonderful stuff. . .I really like original, cute, a little eccentric clothes, and they love them too! So, I'm on a quest for cute fabrics, etc. We have a JoAnne's near us, but other than that, I have to buy fabric online. I have a VERY strict budget, and am looking for awesome fabrics on awesome sales :) At Joanne's I did find a really cute toile, chocolate brown on aqua, which I'm making into a dress apiece for the girls (4th grade and kindergarten).
What are your favorite affordable fabric shops online? Thanks for your suggestions!
ps--have any of you seen any patterns for boys western-style shirts, you know the style with the pointed yoke and pearly snaps? I've been looking, but not found yet. Thanks! |

Have you tried Fashionfabricsclub.com? It has some great deals.
And here is a pattern for the western style shirts: http://www.folkwear.com/children.html Folk wear has lots of great patterns and most of them are easy to use. |

I know, seems too early, but it's hard to whip up 15 outfits in that last week before school begins!! At least for me! :) |

Denver Fabrics is a good place. I've ordered quite a bit from them before. They have a lot of great sales.

Aha! I've made a discovery. . .the two sites from Miss Dotty and Chaddsgirl are the same! I think! They have different webpage looks, but the same fabrics/prices etc even for the clearance pieces! Interesting! Like them, by the way!
Still would like a boys western shirt pattern, more the type that boys wore in the '70's :) if you know what type I mean |

Not sure what size or how old your son is, but this page has several patterns like you mentioned.

Sheila, if you don't find exactly what you are looking for, how about going to the thrift store and looking for the style shirt you want and take it apart and make your pattern from that.
I actually bought 2 clearance shirts this spring that I plan to make patterns out of because I like the style so much and they are hard to find in my size(hefty!).

I have this KwikSew pattern, unfortunately only in men's sizes. Just a head's up, it is fairly detailed...but the results are really nice. I sure am kicking myself I didn't keep all my patterns from when I used to sew semi-professionally. I was totally burned out from sewing when we moved and gave away well over 500 patterns. :( |

Shelia,Here is another store you can check out! They have fair prices on stuff and have sales all of the time! I have not ordered from them yet, so I can't really comment on how they are with shipping and all of that!

Ha ha Lizabeth!! :) guess who the one bidder is on that pattern! Glad to hear it looks nice done up! Hopefully "fairly detailed" is okay for me--is it WAY more difficult than a normal men's/boy's shirt? |

I think it is a little. The sleeves have plackets at the cuffs, the collar is a standup and the front is a separate, doubled strip (where the buttons go). Probably not as hard as it is just time consuming. Di |

That's an awesome pattern Theresa. I just can't figure out how I'd print the pattern if I were to purchase it. Let me know if you do and how you do it!! |

Sheila, I am so proud of you for making clothes versus buying the crud they have out on the market. You girls' outfits are darling and they will look smashing at school!

Like most epatterns, it prints a bit on individual pages then tells you how to tape them together to make the pattern. I haven't printed this one yet, but plan to sometime this week.

Oh ny goodness Sheila, you have been busy. My son would love that shirt with the cowboys on it. They are so cute. You really do a great job. I wish I was such an experienced seamtress.
