I'm not sure where to put this. I am needing to get a bicycle helmet and wondering if anyone has any tips on getting the right fit? What to look for in a good helmet, etc.

I bought my 8 yo a Bell True Fit bike helmet after seeing the commercials for it. They fit so nicely! Doesn't pinch, slide or anything - has a hole in the back for a pony tail. I was really surprised when I saw that they have them for adults. I'm going back for one myself. They're pretty too! http://www.belltruefit.com/adult.html

About the fit, all I can say is that it needs to fit snug. There should not be any extra space between your head and the foam inside the helmet. If it can move around on your head, it's too big for you. And when you are wearing the helmet, make sure to tighten the chin strap all the way, even if it's a tiny bit uncomfortable. You don't want the helmet to be able to slide at all if your head is hitting the ground. As far as brand goes, I've had both Bell and Specialized. Both worked fine.

The best thing would be to visit a bike shop. That what I did and got a PERFECT helmet!

Thanks for the tips ladies! I'm buying my 5 year old his first bicycle and we need to get the helmet too. Maybe next year I'll be able to afford a bike & helmet for me.
