Jonni, I like the use of surnames as first or middle names, too. But, of course, you have to be lucky enough to have a nice surname. I used to know a girl named Granger; that was her mother's maiden name, and I thought it was just the prettiest name (pretty girl, too). I also knew a girl named Carson (again, mother's maiden name), and my cousin named her son Morgan (her maiden name). Sadly, I won't be able to do this with my children. "Roesner Yonkovit" just doesn't work!

Hey Jenny! My great grandmother's name was Nola. :)
We have had some interesting names on my dad's side of the family. There was a set of fraternal twins and their names were Lonnie Hern and Linna Fern.

I thought I posted already, but I don't see it now. So pardon me if this is a duplicate.
The oddest two names in my family are my great-grandmother Iva Louisa (pronounced EYE-va Lou-EYE-za) and her brother Era (pronounce EAR-a) Did their parents do that on purpose? Eye and ear? They must have...but why?
On the other side of the family, I had a set of great-great-grandparents named Mary and Joseph. They missed a great opportunity when they named their son Frank.
And here are some more that you don't see often. Some of them date from the 1790s, but others are my own immediate family.
Girls: Peninah, Sarepta, Almeda, Mildred, Helen, Rose, Diamond, Willa, Shaya, Martha.
Boys: Elijah, Josiah, Horace, Louis Augustus, Earl, George, Ralph, Hiram, Elvin, Malachi, Francis, Estel.

My great-great grandmothers first name was Freelove. That's kinda strange. Sounded like a hippie name from the sixties...don't ya'll think?!
I named my daughter Sena Grace after my grandmother and a favorite auntie. She has always loved her name and is glad I gave her a unique name.

Hey Linda...the Nola in MY family is also my great grandma!! Small world. Your great grandma didn't happen to be from Arkansas and marry a Ramey and end up going to calif during the depression did she?????? I can't think of what mine's maiden name was..I think it was Magheehee (sp???) or something like that. I dont' know that side of the family as well as my mom's side.

Hey cool! Girl or Boy? Jonni~ I think Havilah will end up winning! I personally like Eden better but daddy likes Havilah. I said either so I'd bet it'll be Havilah Lynn. (after my momma) It is common in Jewish circles. |

Oh...I almost forgot one. I had an Aunt Butch!! She had a gravely voice so her nickname was Butch. I never knew it was a funny name until one of my friends in first grade started laughing when I mentioned my Aunt Butch.

Jenny, that's really funny. I have an Aunt Ann, who was married to Uncle Butch. When they got divorced, she ended up with his truck...and drove around in a pickup with "Butch" painted on the door for years.

Misty~~ We won't know till it gets here. We never found out with the others so we won't start now!
The truck and nicknames reminded me of my aunt. Her name is Helen but I have always called her Aunt Leggs. She used to drive a Leggs pantyhose delivery truck when I was little and it had Leggs written in HUGE letters on the side. Everyone called her Leggs, and I think I'm about the only one who still does. When I hear my cousins talk about Aunt Helen, I have to stop and think who it is! I've never thought it wierd till I mention her to others and then wonder if they think I'm crazy! lol

As far as I know, no weird names. Just old fashioned lol
My grandmammy was Maria (I am named after her YAY)granddaddy was Jan. Other grandparents names were Aaltje and his name I won;t mention. It is a normal name here (albeit very old fashioned) but in the USA it "sounds" like sexual intercourse DUH!! YIKES! It is pronounces different here but in English.... My brothers names are (oldest)Jan, (Middle) Franciscus -Frank for short- and me (youngest and only girl) is Marian Jose Bernadette . Momma hated her name, but it was a nice name IMO. Jacobina Geerdina. All Dutch names :)
Hugs from Marian/Dutchy, a farmgirl from the Netherlands :)

Grandma was Ila Teresa Mom was Ila Ardell Sister is Tommye Darlene I also have a great uncle Beverly and a great uncle Garth. My first name isn't weird, just spelled differently - Stephenie (the only time mom used that name I better get the shovel and just start digging my own grave)
My mother-in-law is Elouise and her brother is Harlan.
I know there are more, but I just can't think of them.

I thought of another one... I had a great Aunt named Oleta (pronounced Oh-LEE-tah) she went by her middle name Helen and I have an Aunt Birdie. Her full first name is Ebirda.

I had an Uncle Butch. That was his nickname. His given name was Raymond. I think he was a bully when he was a kid and that's how he got his nickname. I had an Aunt Orrah and her name is the only one that ever seemed different to me.
