Picking cherries....to give away and preserve before I leave for vacation. Decided to freeze some. Does anyone know how? Check out my blog, which shows some of my harvest.

Hi Desiree! Last summer I was gifted with some cherries from a friend. All I did was pit them, add sugar, and put them in the freezer container. I added the amount of sugar called for in my pie recipe, because my freezer container was just the right size for one pie recipe. I think it was 4 cups cherries and one cup sugar, but it could have been more sugar. You could probably also flash freeze them on a cookie sheet then put them in your freezer bag so you can take out as many as you need at one time and they won't be clumped together.

Hi Desiree, I flash freeze mine. Put them on a cookie sheet, sans the pit. Once they are frozen then put them in a bag. I have also frooze them ready to bake a pie with. Check out the website for the University of Georgia, they have recipes from the Ball Blue Book. I like to can them in a syrup for use on ice cream , which I plan to make and give away for christmas presents this year, getting the cherries off my backyard tree...that is if the birds dont get to them first.
