Hi Ya'll, I used to color my hair, then I developed chemical sensitivities, and started having negative reactions. so I figured gray is better than no hair. LOL. and besides like others have said, I earned every one of 'em. LOL.
I think farmgirl is a state of mind and what ever makes you happy. happy farmgirl day to all. Phyllis |

I just got home from the beauty salon when I read this. Of course farmgirls color their hair! I started when a co-worker said "Oh, don't let your gray show!" I must have been all of 35 at the time - now I'm 52 and have a lot more gray. I've been going every 6 weeks since. I've had highlighting, low-lighting, frosting, and just plain color.
But, times are tight -- I had a consult today, I am going to wean myself off- not for health reasons but for economic ones. I'm probably going to lose my job within the year - I'm going from a permanent tint to a semi-permanent one, the hope is that I won't have a hard root line so that if I need to stop going I won't have a "growing out" period.

My hair has darkened as I've gotten older, which is typical for blondes. It's a dishwater...blah blonde on it's own. I don't have many gray hairs, though. When I have the money (which is a little tough these days) I get highlights and lowlights. I haven't had it done in a while, as it's expensive and I'm trying to pay down some of my debt.

this farmgirl colors her hair all colors of the rainbow when the mood strikes. it keeps things interesting. right now it is alternately foiled in raspeberry and mocha. thankfuly, i have talented friends and a local sallies, or i couldn't afford to do all the funky colors i love.

I have mine natural, it's too much hassle and money to color it for me. I like it and so does the hubbs.

My Mom is almost 80 and she's still coloring her hair. She says she will be like Elvis and have a touch up even after she has passed on.

I am so slack about getting to the hairdresser that if I colored my hair it would have two inch roots! I am 55 and have alot of gray and it doesn't bother me one little bit. Nothing wrong with getting it colored. It's just not for me.

The only color I have never been is my natural one!!! ; )
I color mine to suit my mood. Right now, I am a deep dark brown. I feel mysterious and strong.

I like highlights, especially in the winter, when my hair gets darker b/c I don't get out in the sun. Well, the sun just doesn't shine a lot here in winter. :(

I color my hair occasionally. I'm getting gray at the temples and it drives me nuts. I have really long auburn hair so I color my hair when I have to go on a business trip or to a special even like a wedding or party. Makes my hair darker, but stays auburn.

I always tell my husband when I am getting ready to do it and he says let it go gray that "I may be a grandma, but I don't have to look like one yet".

What is kinda of funny is, when I was in High School, I started coloring my hair. My friends never knew what color I would be from one day to the next. I just loved to experiment. Now, that I should be coloring my hair, I don't. Go figure. I hardly have any gray hair though.

My grandmother had lovely long silver hair that she always wore up in a bun. I remember one time as a little girl that she let me brush it for her. It was all the way down to her waist! I always loved that idea of natural beauty.
I'm a tomboy, and yet, I ALWAYS wear dresses and pretty hats everywhere I go. In fact, if I go out the door without a hat, I don't feel right! Anyway, years ago I used to let my stylist talk me into highlighting my hair. She said that the blonde streaks would make me look 'sun kissed' and how my hair would look so much better. Eighty dollars later and I went out the door with my sunkissed hair, only to repeat the process again a few months later...and then again..and again. At one point going to the wrong place literally fried my hair!!
Finally, I decided enough was enough and just let it all grow out. Now my hair is totally natural... I have dirty blonde hair, but with it's own natural highlights...and a little lemon juice shampoo treatment that I do myself once in a while...when I plan to go out to spend some time in the backyard in some sun, getting that real sun-kissed affect!! Hehe.
My own point of view (for me) is this (and this may be my mennonite upbringing speaking), but G-d made me this way...and I'm pleased to be so. We are all so unique as it is!

My hair is honey blonde and I love it. I have never colored, dyed, or highlighted my hair or even cut it in my life. I don't think I ever will because I love my hair and I belive that god made me this way and I think he knows best. Sorry if no one can understand this. I'm very bad with words as you can tell. :) And I have no problem with other people coloring ect, to there hair. I have several friends that do there hair that way and thats fine with me. I'm just happy the way god made me. Maggie |

Never colored . . . but dozens of perms!!!
The gray in my hair is my "silver reward" . . . and, yes, I earned every one of them. I'm too old to start coloring now but I will continue to perm because my hair is naturally so danged straight!!!!!!
Farmgirls . . . I say color your hair if you want!!! A girl has gotta do what a girl's gotta do!!! CJ

I get a wild hair every once in a while and "head" for the hair dye. I do the cheap stuff and I keep it close to my natural color so I don't have to do roots. Just seems to shine it up a bit and gives me a little bit of "girly". I cut my own as well, it's real long so I do the top and hubby trims the ends. That is one day I'm REALLY nice to him heehee!

This farmgirl started getting grey hairs at 19 and I figured it would be too much work to keep it colored, so I've embraced that "silver" hair (as I like to call it now) and am proud of every one of 'em!!! LOL

Marian you are a young 52, enjoy your hair. I am a 54 year old Grandma. I had been letting my hair turn gray after coloring for about 10 years. But recently my youngest daughter remarried, and my gray is mostly on top, so I have been doing highlights with a little of my natural color mixed in. So as not to look too bad for her wedding. Now it has been since September, and, wow, lots of gray has filled in. I may just let it go this time and be what it may be. Mostly because I get tired of messing with it. And my husband has been gray since his twenties. I think it would be nice to be gray together with my best friend.
Happy coloring yall and yes we are all farmgirls. Most of us have electricity and drive cars too, its all good. Sheri
