I need wicks for my old farmhouse oil lamp!! Why am I having a hard time finding any??? Do any of you have some wicks I can buy?? LoL! Or trade something..I guess I should've posted this in the marketplace or barter?
Brooke do you ever order off-line, they have wicks at Aladin-Us.com. Or you might want to try your local Ace Hardware or some of the old family owned hardware stores. They often times have things Lowe's and Home Depot don't.
going to look around more, Debbie ... thank you and if all else fails, I'll take you up on the offer. Trying to get little things ready just in case we're hit with a bad hurricane again this year...Oil lamps are always good when the power's out for weeks... I was caught off-guard last time and thought I still did have some. I doubt we'll have another bad hurricane but you never know ...
Brooke there is one on Bay Area Blvd. east just past Space Center Blvd. and there is a Sutherlands (old family owned place on FM 517 west in Dickinson, TX. It is just west of Dov Meadow Drive. About a mile west of I45 on 517. They have been there since the beginning of time and may have what you are looking for. Maybe you could call first. We get the lumber for the ranch there.
A while back I saw a post that told about someone taking their outdoor battery powered solar lights and bringing them indoors when the power went off. She stood them in jars or something and was amazed how much light they put off. Then in the morning she'd take them back out in the sunshine for the day. I thought that was a GREAT idea and no flames or fumes!
My, my we farmgirls are resourceful...aren't we? Debbie
