We have had some terribly hard rains the last 2 days (and it will continue according the weather this morning) and last night, during a brief respite from the showers, I stepped outside to review the garden and my hollyhocks, which had grown about 8 ft tall were smashed down from the base (not broken that I could tell) all across the garden path.

Can they be helped?
What can I do to stake them or tie them?
Is this normal?

Jonni, I would stake them up with bamboo stakes. If they are not broken, they should be OK.

We have been lucky here. Some rain but not bad winds. Just a 40 miles east of us, they are having floods. Most of the farm land is flooded.

I took a walk-about this morning around my gardens and everything looks great. Even picked some greenbeans, hot peppers, bell pepper, and a zucc. Guess I better go out to the back side of the celler and check on my hollyhocks.

Oh for goodness sake! I can't believe they ate them like that!!!

Belle, my husband made some sort of support for them yesterday (in between the downpours) and they seem to be alright, though certainly not as upright and beautiful as they once were!
