Is it Bullwinkle or his girlfriend? (Sorry, I'm from Illinois and have never seen a real live moose).

I love it.
I am crazy about moose.
We once bought a house with a stuffed moosehead over the fireplace. He was the best pet I ever had. He listened to all my problems, let me pet him whenever I wanted to and never made a mess in the house. We named him "Mario LeMoose" and dressed his antlers for every holiday.
Oh how I miss Mario.

~~ Holy Toledo!! ~~

When I used to ride with Tom in the tractor trailer, we were up in the northern part of Mass., and he was using one of his "short-cuts" so we could get to a warehouse a little earlier than the designated time.

The road was beautiful, and jus' about the time I was really gettin' into all the woods, streams and all that, here's a Big Sign that read, "Watch for Moose" --

What??

I about jumped out of my seat!! -- " You didn't tell me there were Moose Up Here!!'

Not that it mattered, but we never did see one whenever we used that highway..or any other time up in the North Land..

But this Is a great picture!!!

Laurianne, my husband loves to use his cb radio when we go on a long trip. We've had many interesting conversations about moose with truckers in New England.

I didn't know there were moose in Idaho though! Somehow I thought Idaho was much more great plainsy. Maybe it has different regions...I think I need a geography textbook.

I live in the panhandle, basically the bottom of the Canadian Rockies. There are caribou (rare), wolves, grizzly bears, mountain lions, bobcats, etc. It's really wild here.

Funny moose pic, Trish! Are the moose in town? Or do they show up at your place while you are gone and then you find them there when you get back?

This pic is on the way to town, about 1/2-1/4 mile from town. I've never seen a moose in town, but I heard it does happen. The town 30 miles south of Bonners Ferry, Sandpoint is notorious for having moose in town. It's in a snow belt and the moose use the city streets to get to and fro. I saw one at my place, two springs ago. I think it's because they eat rosehips, and we have tons of wild roses on our property, and across the street. Here is the pic.

No question is silly, but do moose lose their antlers annually? Do both male and female moose have antlers?

BTW, my dear sister used to own the bowling alley in Sandpoint.

We are about 45 minutes north of Sandpoint. I really love it there. It is A LOT more progressive than Bonners Ferry. DH works near Sandpoint, so we plan on relocating there, if we ever sell our other house in Western Washington. We also would like to be nearer to Lake Pend Oreille.

Females do not have antlers. Males do, and lose them annually. They are refered to as scoops. It's all the rage here to put your address # on a scoop and put it at the end of your driveway.

This is not my picture, but I love it anyway!

We have a cow moose that roams the area and every spring she and her current calf make it's way through town, even out to my place, gorging themselves on everyone's tulips. LOl

I love how that picture really illustrates how big moose are. I think it is easy to shrink the larger animals in your mind until you forget how big they are. Moose, Elk and Bison are all so massive!

Oh my gosh! That moose is bigger than that van! Or at least the perspective makes it appear that way. I would be running, too!

Trish, I showed Oakley your photos and we think it is so cool that moose are a somewhat regular thing that you see on your way to town! It makes the world seem smaller and homey-er having you share what to you is everyday life and for us is something that we would just see in books or on TV and there you are personally experiencing it!

Thanks for posting it!
