Okay. Today is a melancholy day (drizzling and foggy) so it's only fitting that my mood reflects. I really didn't know where to post this and so I closed my eyes and moved the mouse. Here it is.

For 2 years now I've felt that I'm supposed to serve a purpose greater than myself and so I've been soul searching, praying and even getting in touch with my inner psychic...haha... today I stumbled acrossed a post from a fellow farmgirl who is going through her own personal tragedy. I was thinking, what could I do to lighten her load when it hit me right between the eyes.
But I digress....
I watch these shows on TV where all this money and influence supposedly changes someones life forever and usually it leaves me feeling insufficient or inadeqate because I certainly do not have that kind of money to toss around. I would find myslef constantly repeating to JerrBear (my hubby), "if only I could help someone like that...we are so blessed and lucky in ways a lot of people aren't" To which he usually replies, "that's why I love you, you are the most compassionate, kind-hearted person I know"... .awwwww, right?
Still, I've not done much for others for lack of "how".
So now we are up to present moment. My epiphany moment. I'm a true blue farmgirl right? Farmgirl #279 so my badge information states. That means I have a HOW. I can drive to another state to sit and listen. I can invite the down-trodden into my home for a luke-warm meal (if you've ate my cookin, nothings done at the same time, so it's all luke warm...lol). Tired? I have a spare bedroom. Cold? I have an extra sweater. Sad? I have the goofiest, ill-timed humor ever, if you don't laugh, I'll crack myself up!
My purpose in life is to be the kind of person, kind of neighbor we all should be. If it means driving to PA, KY, MI, IN WV whereever, to meet a total stranger and just BE THERE, I will.
So thank you for letting me state my purpose and be all melancholy and totally mushy for a moment. And, thanks to the powers that be for helping me find my purpose and realize how well it suits me.
I'm done! <giggle>

Love it. I am always surprised that when we reach out to others, it is always us that comes away from the experience richer somehow!

Oh Dawn -

You are such that person already! I know from my experience from last week-end at your home!

I feel the same way; I am most happiest when helping others and making them smile, or to lighten their load. I find it most satisfying!

You go girl

You are soooo on target. Whatever one does to help and support another person fills the bucket.
I think we have been railroaded int othinking it takes lots of resources to help when back in Grandma's day, if someone needed help, you just gave it to them.
If all of us could touch one other life, and they touched one other life and ..... it's been said before much more eloquently than I can but you are so right, Dawn

Dawn,

I love it! I love the attitude! I try so hard to live like that. Of course it drives my two teenage boys absolutely nuts, but I always tell them that if their mom trying to be nice to everyone is the only thing that they have to complain about then they have it pretty good!I honestly think that you can never be too nice, kind or caring. If anything, the world truly needs more of it, not less.

Dawn, you were the first one to reach out to me here and send me a farmgirl apron when I was needing one. Every t-shirt I own has bleach spots, but none of my new ones do. I think of you every time I wear my apron!

You ARE the perfect farmgirl in my eyes!

Dawn,
You are such an role model. Jusat a few minutes ago I stoped a McAwfuls, I am additicted to their sweet tea and one of their worker was getting off work. I have seen this girl walk home several times, so I asked her if she was walking home could i give her a ride. It is very hot today to be walking home on long pants and dark shirt. She looked at me loke I was a pervert and no she was ised to it. There were others who heard me ask her and they were all whispering when I left. I say let them, they are not going to stop me from doing RAOK. So thank you for opening my eyes.

Blessings,

Good for you Dawn! Something as simple as reaching out in a way you know how can make all the difference to someone else. We hold back too often and miss the opportuniy to not only bless someone else but to receive blessing in return. I like the way you look at this as a "what do I have-what do they need?" sort of equation. Just seems to make sense when you view it that way.
At this time when there is so much turmoil in the world, we should all be sensitive to those around us and don't be afraid to step out.
Sending you hugs and I know NY is too far away...

Oh, Dawn! You are awesome! It is true. This world all of a sudden becomes so full of happiness and possibility and promise when we step outside of ourselves and just think about what we can give away and begin doing it. It is a love that is like a ripple on a pond that keeps spreading further and further out, the blessing keeps getting passed on.

I am so happy for your epiphany! And I especially relate to you on the "I have the goofiest, ill-timed humor ever, if you don't laugh, I'll crack myself up!". We're two peas in a pod on that one! Lovin' Man has to ask quite often, "WHAT are you laughing at?"

I can't wait to hear from you what sort of adventures and blessings you will be having fulfilling your "purpose"! It is going to be exciting!

It is so great that you are so loving and compassionate. So many people try to fill a void or look for purpose in superficial things. They end up feeling emptier in the end. There needs to be more folks like you in this world. YOu are very brave to open yourself up like this. It is hard to do in a ME ME ME world.

HI ladies, thank you for all the wonderful comments. I wanted to say something in regards to a private email I received, but thought it worth sharing. I was the depressed person who was addicted to shopping. Like Trish said, filling my life up with superficial things. I was on "happy pills", I suffer from Fibromyalgia and all the fun stuff that tags along with it. The greatest rememdy I have found does not lie within therapy, or a pill, or food (unless it's chocolate!). The best therapy lies within giving myself to those who "need". It took me 38 years to realize this, but I look forward to another 38 years of sharing it.

Today, I am babysitting a 1 year old baby, who's mom just left an abusive relationship and she can't afford daycare. Is it an inconvenience? Maybe a little, as I haven't had a child in my care since Audrey (16 years ago). I'm not getting paid. My house is TOTALLY not child proofed. I've run out of high places to set breakables. Its only noon and I'm tired. I've lost her binky twice and one sock. And my living room looks like a toy bomb went off and the dogs are in chewie heaven. But that young mom needs a break. She needs to work and support this beautiful child. So my inconvenience is insignificant at this point. As I woke up this morning I popped a couple frozen biscuits in the oven and made a couple smoothies. I knew Mom would be running behind and not have a chance to eat. So I sent her to work with a bite and a power shake and plopped the kid in the kitchen with a couple wooden spoons and a bowl. Tonight I'm making dinner for us and a smaller one for her to take home and eat as well. This.....this is my therapy.

Dawn, you are making me laugh about the "toy bomb" going off in the living room! Thank you for sharing this with us. Those were all very thoughtful things to do for someone else. We all need encouragement and inspiration and a little push to do things for others and just telling us what you did is giving me, and I am sure others, our own ideas about what we could do. Keeping giving in the forefront of our minds!

Dawn, I truly believe we were separated at birth... I have done many of the same things you have done (I drove all the way to Ohio didn't I) and I have a lot of the same feelings and ideas that you have as well. lol. I keep asking my mother if she misplaced my sister at birth. I am truly glad we found each other. We needed to.

love and hugs,
