I have plaintain oil, chick weed oil, and some calendula/comfrey oil ready to go along with a cake of beeswax. I took a class last fall in which we learned how to do this, but I can't find my notes. The only recipes I have foudn measure the beeswax in volume. I am looking to measure it by weight so I don't have to grate it into tiny pieces to get an accurate measurement.

Any suggestions?

Becky it sounds interesting and I wish I could help, but no nothing about this. I'm surprised that any of the farmgirls haven't posted any suggestions. Do another question topic and put the word help.

Hi! Sorry I didn't find this sooner. I add one tablespoon, then take a spoon full of the mixture that is still warm from the stove and put it in the freezer for a few mintues, it will cool just enough to get an idea of the texture and then add either beeswax/oil from there to get the consistency you like. I usually start with 1/4 cup oil, to one table beeswax and then go from there.

Becky...I love your recipe for First Aid Salve and will make a batch up for my own use! Thank you for that!!! I have a 'potion' I want to share with you, too. About 10 years ago, I got a bacterial infection on my face from a lake when we were boating. I guess it would be comparable to the MRSTA outbreak today...although at that time there was little known about it! Breaking this down into the Reader's Digest version, my doctor tried everything to clear this up and gave me the strongest antibiotics available then! Finally after 2 months it went away...BUT...every year I got it back, especially when I became stressed or the seasons changed! The doctor actually gave up and told me there was nothing she could give me that would clear it up. It actually had settled in my lymph nodes in my neck and I could feel some pain in my chin where the outbreak was each time it flaired up. I started doing some research and looking for more natural products to use when I came upon this concoction of 4 T. Almond oil, 10 drops Teatree oil, 8 drops Lavender oil and 2 T. Witch Hazel, put into a 4 oz. brown glass bottle. I cleaned the area with Witch Hazel and applied my potion on the area topically, 3 times a day. Well, needless to say, when I did have a flair up it was gone in 2 to 3 days as compared to months on the antibiotic the doctor prescribed. I checked with my doctor and the lymph nodes are clear, no infection at all. It has totally left me. Being Romanian, I think my Doctor believes in some old village remedies herself! I truly do believe that many times there are magickal powers in Natural Medicine, especially in this case. There is no better healer than Teatree Oil and Lavender Oil...both are considered antiseptic and I believe in my case, have antibiotic properties.
