...because I'm a hitching a ride with you gals. Hello Ladies, I am from northern MN, I always say northern because no one ever knows the tiny town of Akeley (even though that’s where they say Paul Buyan was born, went to court and everything). Everyone calls me Rose after my grandmother Rozella. I live in a trailer out in the country (my friends call me trailer trash) with my Fiancé, we’ve been together for 7 years. He's a photographer and builds websites for people. We are planning to build ourselves a log home out on his grandfather’s farm. I believe there is over 200 acres there and we are still going over what we would like to do with it. The farm has a small river that runs through it and thick woods on one side and fields on the other. We are taking the old barn down and I am planning all sorts of cool things to make out of the wood. Maybe tables, cupboards or signs. We just have some Herfers right now. I am going to start a cut flower business and a large garden for myself but he's looking into doing a CSA or switch grass as an alternative energy source. I really enjoy baking artisan breads and pastries; I would love to turn that into a business also. I sew; knit, crochet and just about every other thing and I hope to open something like an etsy account until we open a store at the farm. We just turned off our TV and I couldn't believe how many projects I got done this week. I put up some pictures of the MJ projects I made at www.smalltowngirl.us . My fiancé hasn't made my site yet too busy. I really want to get a miniature donkey; I just think they are too cute. I have a family of wild turkeys that come into our yard around noon and steal bird seed from the feeders and then go back into the woods, I got to see them grow from tiny babies. Right now I am making gingham aprons and working with a hand held loom making all sorts of things. Boy would I love to go on, but I really shouldn’t, can’t wait to talk to you all, Rose.

Welcome, Rose! Your land sounds wonderful - I have always dreamed of living by a river in the woods! So peaceful. My husband and I grew up cities (he in Los Angeles and me in New York). It has been a dream come true to work at MaryJane's Farm and to just be a part of the land. I love the days when I get to make up the tents for Bed and Breakfast. I go out alone into the quiet and listen to the wind in the trees and the occasional cow in the distance. It is joyful! Congratulations on all of your projects - it sounds like you are having too much fun, and you can't help but bless others with your many talents!

Welcome, Rose!

I LOVE northern Minnesota and I also loved your crafts, especially the ones made out of the floral fabric!

My ex-husband and I used to travel from eastern Washington to eastern Quebec (where his parents live) and we loved going through northern Minnesota and the UP of Michigan.

I would have loved to have done an internship at the nature center at Hackensack.

Oh thank you ladies for such a great welcome, it made me so happy. I have so many projects going to keep the cabin fever away in the winter. I have about a hundred more projects waiting, I want to make everything in my MJ book. MN is so pretty, I am glad you guys think so too, I hate it when people ask me how can you live their and do you go outside in the winter? I tell everyone I live in an igloo. I do have a dog sled though. Oh I have about a hundred things to chat about, funny I tried to make a blog last week but I couldn't think of a thing to write about. We are thinking about making a farm blog to get people interested in staying at our farm. I really want to go to the farm fair, it's only a 20 hour drive. But we don't have a very dependable car, we might have to drive the farm truck, what a sight that would be, it's old. Oh I can't wait to chat, Rose

Hi Rose, Welcome from a ex-Minnesotan. We had a summer cabin on Big Bass Lake for 24 years. We sold it when we moved here to northeastern Washington a year and a half ago. Had many delicious meals of panfish and walleye from the lake. Do try and come to the Farm Fair and campout if you can. I was luckily enough to be at the first campout. I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful Maryjane, Cindylou, Julie and the rest of the staff are. I first found out about the Farm on one of my "scouting" trips here. There was an article in the Pacific Inlander about Maryjane. When I got home I looked her up on the web and started to look for her magazine. I am the proud owner of all the magazines. JoAnn

Hi Rose and welcome! Your things on your website are beautiful and it was so much fun to hear all about your life in Minnesota. I'm afraid I've been one of those that wonder how someone could live in that cold, but we in San Diego are thin-blooded!! But I'm learning real quick how beautiful parts of our country are-- only wish I could see them. All the projects you are into is starting to inspire me to get out my embrodery floss and get going. I look forward to seeing you around the site.

Thanks for the nice welcome ladies. Mountain Girl, I know where Big Bass Lake is, it's in my area but I have never fished it. I have always wanted to visit Washington, my Fiancé wanted to move to Victoria last year but it didn't work out. Dkgold, I just did some free hand embroidery yesterday, I made bed buddies, I will have to add the photos, I really like freehand now. I am now working on making place mats and napkins; we are getting a bigger table. I read MJ's article on napkins and I made up a tone of them and now a roll of paper towels can last for several weeks in our house. I really want to come to the fair; I am going to have to do some digging on the message boards to figure out where to camp and things. Let me know what projects you ladies are working on, I love to hear them, Rose

Hey Rose!
Wow, what a talented lady you are! I love the pictures of the things you made! I'm also the kind of person who likes to do everything! At the moment I have an unfinished apron and half stuffed doll parts sitting around me! Keep those pictures coming!

Much love,
Laura
