Are any of your families enrolled in a children's book of the month club?
I had never really thought about this kind of thing, but when we were visiting my parents this weekend I was amazed at the number of kid's books that my mom has. We were always reading books when I was little, but it never really struck me about how many books we had and how expensive books are. She told me that when my older sister was a baby she got involved in some kind of book subscription thing with a parenting magazine and every few months they sent us a new book.
I looked up a few online and wanted to get another family's opinion. Are the books that are sent high quality books with good stories and illustrations? Is it a good deal? I have noticed that some of the clubs claim to let you get several books for a pretty low price, but then charge over $20 shipping/handling. It still may even out to be a good deal though.

Any opinions??

We always tried to get into the book sales that the school put on. Most of the elementary school do this and the public is welcome to buy too as they are fund raisers for the school.Great books the list is usually put together by the school lib. I never found a book club that was much good.

my daughter is the club. My 3 yr old grand son love going to the mail box to see if his new book has come. Anything to make reading fun, right?

I used to be a member of the Children's book of the mOnth club and I LOVED it. I started it when my son was only a baby and we have a huge library of great books. The books they sent me once a month were new books that came out along with classic books that have been in print for years. We have a nice collection thanks to that club. I often entertain the idea of joining again, but I don't have space for more books, so we use the library weekly to read books that we don't own.

I looked at the Children's Book of the Month Club some more last night and they have a good selection of books. Whenever I do google searches, that one comes up everywhere it seems. But from what I understand, they don't actually send books every month now, you just have a commitment to buy a certain number of books within a couple years. So really, I guess it isn't what I am looking for. I am having a hard time figuring out what I want. We have been going to the library once a week for storytime and getting a few books then, but I really want books of our own. And it is hard picking out good books with a two year old and a baby to take care of at the same time, so I end up getting 5 or 6 and only 1 or 2 are ones that my son actually likes. More research to do on this, I guess!
