Seriously I have been hoarding wool and cashmere sweaters for awhile now and I probably have 2 black garbage bags full. Some are felted and some are not. I used a few for diaper covers and since my son is interested in potty training what should I do with all the sweaters? Any good projects?
I have always loved embroidery and have recently started picking up handkerchiefs, napkins and placemats at various thrift stores some are embroidered but most aren't. I hope to one day embroider some but what should I do with those tht are already embroidered? Use them in other projects like aprons or quilts? |

| There is a great book called Felt It, Stitch It, Fabulous. This book details how to felt old sweaters and then cut them up and sew them into other things. You may get some great ideas from it to use with your sweater stash, Sara |

| I was thinking of trying to make a scarf hat and glove set but am not sure where to start and honestly it wouldn't put a dent in my sweater stash. |

Sara I love that book. There are so many great projects to make from those sweaters - I have five books shelves of felted sweaters so do not feel bad - I love making, hats, gloves, slippers, hats, bowls, containers, rugs, toys, covered books, purses, bags, and the list goes on and on - it is just thick fabric so cut and sew away.
Monica I love the sights you posted - I have book marked them because you know I have tons of time to start more projects

Grace, Thanks to you I now have piles of freshly washed wool all over my front room so while I may not have any wool sweaters to felt I do have lots of wool!!

Sounds like we are all a bunch of wool addicts? I too have at least 2 black garbage bags of sweaters and other 3 bags of felted wool from wool blazers or trousers...I make mittens, bags, journal covers, hats, purses, slippers..there are a lot of patterns online. All I need now is time.

I have about eight cashmere sweaters that I have collected from thrift stores and I am just waiting to find the perfect project for them. I have thought of scarves, then I moved to mittens then I thought of pillows - I admit I love just touching them. It is like having my little Cashmere babies in my hands in the house. The buttons on the sweaters are so sweet too. I thought it was funny when the lady at the check out could not believe I was purchasing ruined sweaters - Heck a Cashmere sweater in any condition for .50 cents 
I did make some great pot holders, silverware wrap, tent slippers and a hat for my son who camps alot out of a great Icelandic sweater that a friend of mine ruined in the washer. Long story but the husband was only trying to help out - now my son has some great items for his camping box.
I would love to hear more about what you have planned for your stash
Monica enjoy those piles around the house - soon you will have exotic house bunnies.

| I was just going thru some old magazines last night before passing them on to dgd. (Nov/Dec 2005 Sommerset studio)Yes, I keep them forever. There is a pattern for making beautiful Christmas stockings from sweaters. Lay a stocking pattern on the sweater & cut double. You could decorate it with those pretty buttons, and any other doo-dads! One pic showed a sweater cuff as the top edge of the stocking. I plan to try this. |

Boy I wish I had the thrift stores you guys have. I have a few wool sweaters but I have not been able to find enough to make a small bag full let alone garbage bags full. Whohooo you guys have good shopping!!! I did make a pair of mittens from one of the sweaters and they are the warmest ones I have ever had and up here in michigan they are great for our winters.. !!!

| Forgetmenot forgot to add: I also saw an article a couple of years back on handkerchiefs. They were layed flat. (pretty side down). Then a pint fruit jar full of flowers was placed in the middle. The handkerchief was pulled up to cover the fruit jar, and with a pretty ribbon around the rim...walla! You now have a lovely gift for a friend. |

I also have a few (8 maybe LOL wool skirts and a wool blazer) I made the cutest soft baseball for my youngest last Christmas from the white wool blazer and used red wool yarn for the lacing.
Ok I desperately need winter mittens. Should I use a pattern or just trace my hands?

| My thrift store has a once a month bag sales where you can buy a paper shopping bag full of anything in the store for $2 so I usually wait until then and stock up. I have bought leather coats, wool sweaters, an Armani suit (that actually fit me) and more for less than $2 since it was shoved in the bag with tons of other things. |

One of the stores I went to did that too - loved it because that day I purchased about a dozen leather skirts and some incredible wool jackets all for about $5.00. After cutting them all apart I a little bit of creative know how I made up kits for journals and pincushions and made a very handsome profit. Don't you just love it when you can take someone's throw away and make it work for you

Holy moly, you guys with piles of wool, what fun! I guess it is always so frigging cold here in the winter thye woolen things get snapped right up at the thrift stores, Yearws ago I knit some wonderful sweaters for my husband. After we divorced we remained good friends and after George ided I became good friends with his fiancee, Victoria. She called me once this winter and asked me if there was anything we could do with the sweaters i'd knitted for him, she didn't want to just abandon them. My son wanted one, which is nice and we decided we will make pillows with the others after we felt them. I can't knit anymore, but it will be fun to work with some wol again. I hope you ladies who crank out all this wonderful stuff will post some pictures of what you make, I know I would love to see them....

Karin, I loved visiting you blog - the cats are so wonderful - I miss having one. I keep forgetting to take pictures of finished items if they are going to be sold unless I am placing them on Etsy. Next round of creative goodies I sure will take some pictures.
As for the journals I do not have pictures of them - I sold them in one of the retail stores I have so I was not concerned about pictures. If I get another round of them done I will try to remember to take pictures.
