For several weeks we have had a problem with some critter getting in the trash dumpster. It has a tie down strap, we added a bungie cord then added a rope. Still had a problem with this very smart, very strong varmit getting in and making a mess out of the bags of trash. Ole Ron has set the live trap but keeps catching our cat. Didn't want to set a foot trap because of the cat. Last night we heard the lid from the bucket of bird seed hit the porch floor. We turned on the light and there was a coon right there on the porch looking at us. We both grabbed a gun but the coon knew that we would not shoot toward the car. Anyway she got away but this morning she was in the live trap. So Ole Ron did what had to be done, no we didn't take her off to be let go in a safe place. I wish someone from PETA would stay here a while so they could see how much extra work some of these wild animals cause. |

I wish someone from PETA would come "rescue" the armadillos that tear up my yard and flowerbeds and garden! Ugh! Ugly creatures!
Belle, we had a coon getting on our front porch and eating the cat food. We caught him one night like you did yours, but he just maintained eye contact as he continued to munch on the food he had in his hands, never thinking to run from us! I just turned my Emma dog loose on him and he hightailed it on out of there. Last time we saw him. Well, a bunch of my DD's friends came up and went coon hunting the next week-end, so that might have had something to do with it, too. Then the possum came around to sample the cat food. But our old Tom cat took care of him. Stryper's more ornery than any old possum!
But the armadillos...UGH!

Cherry, I have seed possums and my cats eating cat food from the pan AT THE SAME TIME. What we really need is a dog. We keep talking about going to the pound and rescuing a dog. Think that time is near. |

A rescued dog is the best, most grateful dog ever! I have two, Emma the big dog and Harley the little dog, and they love us to pieces!

We have raccoons that get into our barns all the time.
Yesterday a plastic can was tipped over and some of the (crane) diet was missing.
Guess you can't blame them when the pelleted diet smells like fish.
We do the bungee cord thing too and it works for just a while. The 'coons eventually figure it out too. Galvanized cans don't hold as much food but they do work.
Cinder block on the lid usually do the trick. Then all you have to do is see all the bite marks around the lid to see the damage and determination. |

Glad you got that pesky varmint! I fully understand how much damage a raccoon can do! Good luck on finding a permanent way to keep his relatives out of your yard.

I loved looking at the deer and raccoons in my back yard until the coons started eating the fish from my watergarden, and the deer loved my plants and deer poop is not small either.
Hope all your days are Sunnydays. dianebcarterhotmailcom.blogspot.com |
