I wrote this poem and dedicated it to my mom, who passed away in 2003. I want to share it here to the memory of many of our moms in heaven, who we still miss so much.

God Replied

The day she died God came to her.
He gently peeled away the pages of her earthly journal.
It was as if he plucked the petals from a faded rose,
and tossed them free, into the breeze eternal.

Paper thin and brittle, the aged petals flew,
like autumn leaves, swept up by chilly wind.
Each layer of the rose more fragrant grew,
with delicate perfume still left to spend.

The joyous folds of family years,
of babies growing up in tender care, clung tight,
Resisting currents that would steal
Her bloom of youth - not wanting to take flight.

But He prevailed against the flower's death.
He knew the story of this rose when new.
The bud, its childlike face turned to the Son,
Blushed pink, as from a tiny seed it grew.

Released at last! Back to essence of Heaven!
"Thank you!" she sweetly cried.
He opened His arms to her and smiled.
"You're welcome, God replied.

Dedicated to my mother Thelma Elizabeth Fry Dakin

Jeannie - the poem is beautiful. Has it been published, if not it should be. I am fortunate that my mother is still living - we spent the last week together - the visits are special as I live in Minnesota and she in Florida - your poem is lovely, thanks for sharing.

Thank you Jeannie for sharing that lovely poem. My mama died when I was 17 and never got to meet her grandchildren or know me as an adult. I still miss her to this day and always will.

I think of my mom more and more as the years without her go by. I like reading the names above and the years of birth. Beverly, what was your mom's and your sister's names?

thanks Jeannie, I lost my Mom last fall. We had just moved back to Tenn lived with her for a month while finding our home. A week after we moved to our new house I went out for a visit and found her on the floor having had a massive stroke the night before. She passed a week later. I'm just thankful I had the chance to spend some time with her before.

Jeannie, that was so beautiful! I've got tears in my eyes from reading it. What a lovely tribute to your mom, thanks so much for sharing it. I agree, that needs to be published if it hasn't been already.

I'm missing my mom so much today.

A very beautiful poem. I have my mother but my Grandma was just as big of a part of my life. She called me her 4th child! (She had 3... my mom, aunt and uncle) We were VERY close. I miss her every single day. She died August 17 2005. One day after my sons birthday. While dying in the hospital she kept asking my mom "Has Steven had his birthday yet?" She didn't want to overshadow his birthday. She had just come all the way to Texas for my sisters wedding. She told me and her not to come up to Michigan after she was sick.... she wanted us to remember her the way she had been on her visit.

I Love you G-ma! Happy Mothers Day!

Thank you all for sharing on this thread. And I wanted to say to MaryJane...I thought of your mom also yesterday, and of you and yours on the loss of your mom this year. They are always with us in our hearts and even into our bones.

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day.
