Does anyone here happen to have saddle mules or donkeys? And if so, what saddles would you recommend (or recommend against)?

I'd like a flex-tree saddle that is light weight, but I'm not sure that standard semi-Quarterhorse or Quarterhorse bars would work well, even in that style.

Is it worth going to mule bars, and is there a mule saddle that weighs less than 50 lbs?

I have a Circle Y Flex Tree saddle for my mammoth jennet, but I have a new large standard gelding donkey for whom I need another saddle. The skirts on the Circle Y are much too long for him so I'd like a round-skirt, endurance-type model.

I do only light riding, and have thick 100% wool pads for each donkey, which I'm hoping will relieve some of the pressure of standard horse bars, but I don't think it would compensate for any rocking.

ANY help would be much appreciated! My donkeys' comfort is my MAIN concern. Thanks!

Have you thought about going with the treeless saddles. They make them for trail riding with and without a saddle horn. Etc. We had some donated out at the ranch and they pretty much fit everyone but have all the features of a regular saddle. Might give it a try. They also make a soft saddle (not the cashel one) that looks just like a western saddle but it is just leather over foam a friend of mine got one for her draft horse but I think they come in different sizes. Looks just like a regular western saddle.

May the force of the Horse be with you.
