I often have sores in my mouth I have them now They hurt so bad I can hardly eat anything I am not sure what causes them ; maybe stress; or from my many diseases and conditions and weakened immune system. Does anyone know what I can do to help them? They hurt to the point of bleeding at times. hugs sheila

I have absolutely no clue what you might have, but I hope you feel better soon. Let us know how it is going and take care!

Oh how painful that must be. I worked in a dental office for 25 years, and I remember a patient having that very same problem. I know the dentist did treat her, but I am sorry I don't know what he did for her. I would suggest calling your dentist. I hope you are all better soon!

Yogurt and rince your mouth with salt water mouth wash. I think they are a form of herpes like cold sores and canker sores and the bacteria in the yogurt will help the acid in your system to calm down and eliminate the sores.

Sheila I used to work for a dentist and he advised using a product called GlyOxide (over the counter) for rinsing the mouth. It's great for any kind of mouth sore especially for those with gum disease. I buy it at RiteAid. Kathy |

I had the same problem but my mouth also felt like I chewed glass; it felt like tiny cuts AND sores. Turned out I was low in folate (folic acid) (and B12). If I don't take 800 mcg of folate every day, it returns. Most people only need to take 400 mcg; that is what my doctor started me at.
It wouldn't hurt to take 400 mcg to see if it helps you. It can be bought over the counter.

I have sores in my mouth too. I get them every month with my monthly. I'll get a big blister on the roof of my mouth, and sores under my tougue and a few on the sides. This started in December and comes back every month. My doctor says she doesn't know whats causing them except maybe a change in the hormone level. I hope yours gets better.
Take care, Melissa.

you know I have asked my dentist and my family doctor and neighter of them know what causes them. I may try the salt water and the rinse. I Have to be careful at what I do with every thing that is wrong with me. I get them at the corner of my mouth I am told that ; that is from stress. I did find vietiname E oil in a little jar that really helps those. Those that tell me that they have sores knows how painful they can be. If it ain't one thing it is another Ha. hugs sheila

There is a prescription paste called Aphthasol that works really well. It's inexpensive, takes away the hurt and seems to make sores go away quicker. I call it "mouth spackle" because you spread it and pat it on just like spackle! I've never tasted spackle, but I suspect it it tastes like it too.

I have had up to half a dozen canker sores in my mouth at one time so I know what you're saying. And my daughter gets these ring looking sores on her tongue that we have no idea what they are. I use the salt water and a toothpaste that does not contain sodium laurel sulfate. That seems to help.

Sorry you're getting these sores in your mouth. I know how badly they hurt. I used to get canker sores all the time when I ate a lot of apples. Another thing I'd suggest is check the ingredients on your toothpaste. Make sure it doesnt contain Triclosan. That's some nasty stuff. It's used in anti-bacterial soap as well. (Not sure why we'd put it in our mouths too?)My DH bought some new toothpaste awhile back & started to get swollen gums & sores. The only difference in this & our regular paste was the Triclosan. He searched online & found a lot about this chemical. Its used in hospitals to kill germs & known to cause gum problems. It sure makes sense to use it in a mouth product then right? We threw it away & never went back. No more problems.
Like the others I'd have suggested the salt water rinse. One thing my MIL also does for canker sores is make a paste of baking soda & water & apply it. Hope you can get this figured out & the pain goes away. Take care! |

I don't get them often but I have had them a few times in my life. I just rinse my mouth with peroxide a few times a day. It's a yucky bubbling experience but it has always helped me.
Hope all your days are Sunnydays. dianebcarterhotmailcom.blogspot.com |

The other thing that works well is holding papaya juice in your mouth. It is very healing for any kind of mouth injury/illness. And it tastes good too.

I have a sluggish thyroid and it sure hasn't helped my canker sores at all. My mom told me when I was a little girl it was from putting my dirty fingers in my mouth, but I sure don't do that now, so I don't know what's causing them. I think I might ask my dentist when I go in on the 16th.

Sheila, My mom suffers from what the doctors call "burning mouth syndrome". They say it's caused by adult thrush and she's run the gamut from medical doctors and homeopathic docs...nothing seems to bring her relief. I am going to ask her about the folic acid and she if that's on the list of things she's tried. I'm wondering if you've had any relief since your post was way back in May?

Sometimes a deficiency of the B complex vitamins will cause mouth sores. I just heard on the TV yesterday that Lysine is good for cold sores too. |

My mom has good days and bad days too. Frustrating for her because she loves good food, but it seems that everything hurts so she's not eating much. Don't ya just love paying to have someone tell you what you already knew? Good luck and I hope you have more good days than bad! Kelly

Also try Tums or Rolaids, a lot of sores in the mouth are from the stomach gases. Peroxide as a rinse also and I always keep my toothbrush in peroxide. You should change your toothbrush every 3 months also.
