Yummm.
My great Aunt Lucille used to make these when I was a girl visiting her farm in Indiana.
I remember they were made with dried peaches but not much else. Anybody have a recipe.

Incidentally; Aunt Lucille and Uncle Claude passed more than 25 years ago and the farm was sold.
Last summer my sister and I decided to try and find it so she searched on Google maps and we drove down to Indiana and drove right to it.
No one was home so we wandered around, down to the creek (which looked a lot bigger when we were kids) and left a note in the owners mailbox telling them about the summers we spent there. Hope they weren't too creeped out

I don't have a recipe for fried peach pies, but I have a memory of the most fabulous, fried apple pies made by a neighbor when I was a child. I have been trying to get back to that flavor with every fried pie that I have eaten since and I never have been able to match it. My mom and I harken back to those fried pies whenever we see them for sale. So all that to say, like Richard Marx, "Hold onto the memory."

We also tour our childhood home from time to time. I bet the owner's of that farm were charmed by finding such sweet remembrances in their mailbox.

Well my former MOL cooked the dried peaches, sometimes apricots with water and sugar until soft, the she puts this filling into plain small rounds of pie dough, folded over, crimped and baked them. Why everyone in her family called them fried pies when baked? I don't know!

Season 9 Episode 12 of Good Eats had an episode on "pocket pies" I've used his recipe for the dough and made pies filled with beef stew (I'm not a fruit pie person). Very tasty!

I never tried these before. Sounds yummy! Might have to try this some time. On a diet now. If you do make them, please let us know how they turn out.

There are quite a few recipes for this on Recipezaar. I found this that uses dried peaches. They are called Southern Fried Peach Pies. Seems like this was a good granny recipe.
