I bought some homemade soap made with coffee from someone a couple years ago. It really did get rid of the garlic smell amd also was a great abrasive when I came in from the field harvesting/ cleaning/ braiding garlic. After I found how well this soap worked I wanted more but I could not find the vendor. I would like to either learn to make this myself or buy some. I would love to be able to have some for myself and it would be a great thing to sell to my garlic loving customers.
Can anyone help me?

I make a 'creme latte' soap. It is made with coffee and whole, fresh cream. It also has finely ground coffee in it.
I keep a bar at my kitchen sink all the time and one at the hand pump outside during the summer for garden cleanup

Hmmm. Can you just use the leftover grounds or do you have to "waste" perfectly good coffee?

| I also make a coffe soap. I use fresh grounds so you get the full benefit of the coffee properties. I use a blend of olive oil, coconut oil, and palm oil. Sometimes I make a pure Soybean oil soap or a pure Olive Oil Soap. There are some great posts about how to make soap on this site. If you would like to learn- I suggest searching the Archives. :) |

I make goats milk coffee soap. I use gormet coffee with the grounds for the wonderful smell it gives the soap and the exfolitation it gives. Goats milk benefits the skin with all the wonderful vitamins it has in it. Goats milk is also great for many various skin conditions.
Since we milk our own goats, the milk is fresh from the farm.

hi just was wondering do you add the coffee near the end of processing your goat soap? I've been learning to make goat soap and love it.. I have goats of my own and using the milk as well.
But I was thinking about goat milk coffee soap. I love the smell of coffee. Any help would be great thanks

I don't do goat's milk soap but when I make my olive oil kitchen soap I substitute coffee for the water when mixing it with lye. I also add some coffee grounds to the soap and a little coffee scented fragrance. I need to make more - I haven't done this one in over a year.

Does anyone know where I can order some Coffee scented fragrance oil?
I checked the usual places where I order and nothing....
Except at a place called From Nature with Love (never heard of them) they offer a coffee scent for $14.04 for 4-ounces.
Any suggestions?

Alee, I checked out the site you recommended it looks great....but I only make cold-processed soap. Have you used their scents for CP?
Just recently I have been having some issues with a bayberry fragrance oil from the company I usually order from and just wondered how these scents worked out for your soap...Cold process I mean.

You aren't bugging me! I have used the SaveonScents in soap and it holds it's fragrance, but you have to check each one to see what the flash point is. Some fragrances are more delicate and I tend to use Essential Oils more than Fragrance oils.

We are trying to steer clear of fragrance oils, but there aren't many choices as far as essential oils go :(
Have you checked out the exhorbitant price of Patchouli???? Last year I paid around $16.00 for 8-ounces...it's $75.00 right now.
Whew....Retro must be in huh?

thank you cann't wait to try coffee in my soap making. Also have a question after pouring the soap into molds wait about 24 hrs before taking them out or cutting them. When they are in on racks to dry for 6 weeks. I noticed the bottom of soap is whiter powder looking is the normal? does it disappear after senting?

Debra - that's just a little ash on your soap. You can either take a damp paper towel and wipe it off or use as it. It won't hurt anything. I wait until my soap is completely cool, about 24 hours, and then let it sit in the mold an extra day. I take it out, let it sit another day, and then cut. It will all depend on your recipe. I use a lot of olive oil which makes a softer bar at first. I have a lot less cleanup if I wait for a bit to cut. I let it sit for another 2 to 3 days and then bevel the edges. After that it just sits and cures. Hope this helps.

Kay,
Thank you. So it is okay to leave your soap in the molds or box square ater 24 hours? I didn't dare to leave it longer than 24 hours. Reading kind of says not to wait over 24 hrs. because it would be hard to cut. Oh another question I have some people cover there soap with towl while cooling down. I haven't is that okay?
Thanks again for your help. I have been waiting for my lye to come in mail so I can make more soap it is so much fun. My next two batches I want to use my dried rose petals and make rose goat soap..and coffee soap

Debra, there's lots of ways to color soap! Try checking your pantry first; a little cocoa powder can add a nice rich brown color, and infusing paprika in your oil can give a nice peach - orange color. Turmeric can give you a pretty yellow also. If you are looking for natural colorants, try using clays. For synthetic colorants, I love Celestial Colors http://www.celestialcolors.com/ .
The reason for the towel covering is to insulate your mold and keep the heat in so your soap can gel. If you don't care for it to gel, leaving it open to the air is perfectly fine! Gelling can allow for you to be able to cut your soap sooner (12 or so hours as opposed to 24+) and will darken the color of your soap slightly. Some people prefer not to let their soap gel, as the color and texture seem a bit more creamy. Totally your preference, though!
If you use your rose petals, try sprinkling them on top of your soap after you pour it; if you chose to add them into the entire batch before pouring, they will likely brown over time. Lavender also does this as well as many things that are tempting to add! :) HTH!

Debra - it will depend on your soap recipe as to how long you leave it in the mold. My soap has a high percentage of olive oil which makes it softer at first. I would take it out of the mold in 24 hours (or sooner as I'm always excited to cut soap to see how it turned out!) and then it would be kind of soft when cutting. I experimented and found that taking the soap out of the mold and then letting it sit another 24 hours works best for me. You will have to experiment but you can usually take it out of the mold and cut it when it is cool and firm to the touch when pressed on top. I don't color my soap much but I've used ultramarine blue and sage green oxide in some of the soaps. My daughter used chlorophyll in a batch of soap and said it was the loveliest green.
Southern Soapers (http://www.southernsoapers.com) has Soaplooza Colors that are supposed to be good in both CP and Melt and Pour soap. They are a liquid gel which is nice so you don't get lumps. You can also use them in lotions, scrubs, etc. I'm anxious to try these so that I can do more colors and not have to buy different ones for each type of product. It gets expensive after a while.

FYI: as an esthetician, coffee is an excellent exfoliater and does wonders for cellulite. Alot of the "big name" beauty industries are utilizing coffee grounds in the body products I use. You soap making girls could make a killing marketing coffee soap for cellulite! I'd buy it!!

Yup, the caffeine is what works on the cellulite. You can actually buy coffee butter to use in lotions and creams. Hmmm, maybe I need to look into a coffee lotion bar that you could rub on cellulite??? Dawn, thanks for that idea.

Hi Molly & Kay,
Thank you so..much for how to color soap. I'm so...excited in making soap it is so much fun and rewarding. I just finished making my rose soap with my dried roses over the years my husband has given me. He wants to renew our wedding vows in June. It will be 30 years Wow! How time fly's So I'm thinking of making soap for table favors for our guess/family. If you have any more ideas/types of soap to make please share them. I'm learning so much with you ladies I cann't thank you all enought.
