A lady I met at our Farmer's Market this past Saturday (hey Oregon!) told me about this forum.

I've perused some of the topics and see I know some familiar faces.

Short and sweet about me:
Dreamed of homesteading since I can remember. We currently have 11 acres, rent out 2 more across the road for pasture and 15 in organic alfalfa hay.

I'm a Mother of 3 (teenagers!) a gardener (veggies, herbs, flowers), soapmaker, spinner, cheesemaker. You can learn more about me from our website (in our siggie line).

Glad to be among like-minded gals

Tell us more about your dog. Do you just have one?

Looking forward to hearing more from you... Karin

Welcome! I had so much fun looking at your website. You are really doing the Farmgirl thing! Fabulous. Your husband's furniture is beautiful. I especially like the harvest table. Very talented! Thanks for joining us. I can't wait to hear more about all your experiences.

Thanks for the kinds words about our site. I'm slowly revamping it.

Our dog? We have just one now. The other died this past May, shortly after "America's Heartland" was here filming. What a joy to see our other dog on the episode when it ran this past fall!

Maverick is half Australian Shepard and half Blue Heeler. He's 8 years old and smarter than some humans I know!

He's always trying to please. He usually waits to be asked to help with things, but is always there waiting for instructions. He will take things upon himself if he knows things aren't right. Such as: DH Paul left the alley gate unlatched (but closed) in the barn while he was milking. The beef steer usually happily munches and ignores the gate. One night, Clark pushed against the gate, found it open and walked out to a free dinner of the alfalfa bales. Paul was busy milking but Maverick saw the steer was where he shouldn't be. He rounded him up, pushed him back to where he belonged and stood in the open gateway.

He gets along with the cats and all babies on the farm.

Welcome from yet another Illinois girl!
It looks like you live a very busy but very fulfilling life. I'd love to come visit your farm sometime! I'm very interested in homesteading and would like to be somewhat self-sufficient someday. Glad to have you here!

Much love,
Laura

Hi Cyndi,
I knew you would be a "fit" here....glad you decided to join in - welcome! Thank you again for the herbs. Also told two friends about Twin City Farmers Market. I really like my knitted hat. I'm sure we'll be talking.

Twin Citys Farmers Market wouldn't happen to be in Bloomington, IL by chance? That's where my brother lives.

No, it's a new indoor Farmer's Market in Sterling IL. We have it open year 'round. Not a lot of produce right now (except winter squash), but we have a variety of vendors offering dry herbs, baked goods, angus beef, pastured poultry, free-range eggs, antiques & collectables ... and our hodge-podge of items ... milk soaps & lotions, hand forged items, hand-spun yarn, crocheted items, bead bracelets ...
