trying to think of what I can do for my own business and truly make a good income. I can do music, art, nature, acting, business, organize, clean, shop, socialize, amongst many other things. I just don't know what to do. I would love something that put travel, music, nature, fashion, shopping, and organizing all together in a business.....any help?!

I am a manager with Tupperware, so I am definitely biased...but I really recommend direct sales businesses!
Most of the direct-selling businesses are doing really well, especially in leaner times, because there is a low start-up investment and you have control over how much you earn & how many hours you work. (And you can't be laid off!)
Another advantage is that you get support to start, training, some have no territories and allow you to sell via the internet, which isn't necessarily so easy with a business you design yourself.
I know you're familiar with some of this, since you're a Cookie Lee rep., but there are lots of great direct sales companies to choose from. Maybe you just need to look a little further...

How about being a "Gal Friday". Helping professional people or even elderly people with organizing, shopping, running errands, planting spring gardens, ect...
Or you could be a health food shopper. Plan healthy meals ( Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner), shop for the food, and leave them with menus. Could go along with "Detoxing" there kitchen.
Another idea is being a "Green House Cleaner". Cleaning offices and homes with only natural ingredients....

I saw an article in the Chicago Tribune last week about a family that has started planting organic gardens for people who want a garden but don't have time to start nor tend them. They have something outrageous like 250 gardens they're handling now! I wish I had saved the article.
This was in an urban area. Just an idea.

My one-these-days-to-be-sister-in-law started selling Mary Kay last fall and is staying super busy with it. I don't know if she is making a good income at it though. I feel really weird about asking her if she's making any money at it. I don't want to be nosey. LOL
My sister has been selling Avon on the side. She will be giving it up in the next couple of weeks. She having lots of sales but is making close to nothing selling it.
I have a cleaning service. You can make some good money at this. If you decide you want to consider this option, I can give you some things you will want to keep in mind with this kind of work.
Let's see some more ideas:
Travel Agent, music lessons, tutoring, professional organizer (can make some good money with that too)
I like Tamara's idea too, the personal shopper or errand runner
What about decorating? Do you enjoy that? Maybe you could help people with decorating especially during the holidays. Hanging lights and putting up Christmas trees. Then you could maybe move into interior decorating.
Just some thoughts.

I personally (in my own opinion) would stay away from doing anything like Mary Kay and Avon. There products, although I've heard some nice things from some people, are not natural and contain many harsh chemicals and yuckies like parabens and other baddies. I steer clear of those products, but that's just me.
Maybe you could try to make a business designing travel packages for people. I don't know. I'll try to think of more later. I was thinking somewhere along the lines of nature travelling for people that like the outdoors and such. Maybe you could arrange their trips and camping sites and research things for your clients like that...?

You could also do something with shopping, like be a personal shopper, or fashion consultant. You could make your own business and do closet makeovers for clients. Like go through their closet and get rid of the stuff they don't like (but still accumulate) and help them choose what looks best on them and what types of clothes they should go for that look best on them and that they are comfortable in. Then after assessing their closet, you could assist them in shopping and pick out new clothes with them.
You could charge by the hour, or in one lump fee for the whole affair. You could come up with a witty name for the business and make business cards to give to people. Just an idea...

I have another one for you. How about designing and setting up herb gardens ~ cooking, medicinal, tea, ect ~.... My hubby and I talked about doing this but have so many other projects we haven't been able too. A lot of people would love to have some type of herb garden but do not have a clue how to start...

Some of the herb people I know have their shops on tours. How about organizing bus trips from your area to go visit herb gardens/shops over a couple hour run. You would have to call and ask the herbal people on the route and arrange it all, but that could be fun. Or the same idea but with quilt shops, or museums, or wineries.

I do direct sales and have for years. Would not do anything else. I have a farm and plan to stretch that into more of a business than a hobby. But I support myself and my 87 year old mother by my work as a part time massage therapist and a full time herbalist. I use products from three different companies, all direct sales. Nature's Sunshine and New Sun are my herb choices.
There are many choices for direct sales. They all let you be your own boss. Usually you work much harder but enjoy it much more than having a job. I know I do.

i've been reading a lot of articles lately where people get paid to tell other people how to garden and just generally help them out with advise.
with all the things you can do something like that would be good. As would something with kids. perhaps a specialed day care service that offers certin perks of teaching the kids things such as art and gardening and stuff, kinda like a summer camp just with less kids.

| As a travel agent you could do some weekend getaways, that include music, nature, etc....that could earn you some quick cash, but the other will be a clientelle base that you would build up for a steady revenue........I'm putting on a Travel Fashion show soon...so that takes care of your shopping end of it all...and you could also do one of the other direct sales along with being a travel agent...from home..... |

How about a piece of paper and one one side write 'con' and the other 'pro'. Now think of six different things you'd like to do, set the alarm clock for 15 minutes and start writing!
If you start a shopping business would it be for a particular demographic? Would it be for a particular set of folks, like making shadow boxes of sheet music and instruments for musicians? Can you write and sell travel articles? Could you start locally, with your newspaper...writing travel articles for singles or families with children? How about articles on three day weekends?
Try a google search and see what you come up with; there are tons of folks out there that charge dearly for this information. I bet you could find it on the net for free. -smile-
