With the best health benefits, ounce for ounce, that will help someone get healthy? I need things I can buy that are local and not weird. We went to Corpus this weekend and my...ahem...bowels...decided to play IBS and it was miserable. So, I started the day with fruit and water...and that is all I can seem to eat today with having to run to the bathroom. SO I want to get super healthy with super side effects. What would be your top 10 things to have on hand?

I am giving up dairy, except for goats cheese and I am going to try goats milk. Doc said it was ok with IBS and chronic diarrhea. Please help. It turned a nice weekend into a ride from heck on the way home.

I am so sick of feeling bad.

Heather,
I used to have bad stomach problems. I gave up sugar & white flour.
I could drink a bottle of Tabasco now & not even notice it.
I still drink beer, but as far as sugar goes, it has to be a pretty darn nice dessert to get me to try it. & white flour only every once in a while. You will not believe the difference.
I remember living on soda crackers & Coke.. I was skinny but had chronic stomach ailments.
Sugar & white flour.. B-A D!!
I eat lots of protein, veggies, and whole grains, & Yes..I love beer..but no sugar & white stuff.. Yucky

I used to take medication for IBS and haven't in years.

Here's what I did:

~Gave up caffeine (except for an occasional chocolate or cup of coffee - meaning every other week) I switched to herbal teas
~I only drink carbonated beverages if I have a migraine then it's Pepsi for me
~I limit my intake of spicy foods
~No greasy foods
~I also used to constantly be taking Advil. This wreaked havoc on my system. It's rare when I take one now
~No fast food
~Limited intake of sugar
~Ginger helps settle my tummy for me or a little bit of raw cider vinegar mixed with hot water and a touch of honey or agave nectar (for taste)

I really hope you can get some rest and relief Heather. I know exactly what you are dealing with and these changes have helped me alot. I also keep Acidophilus on hand too.

Heather- I stumbled across a book when at Borders looking for a book about GERD and Acid Reflux. It is called "Restoring your Digestive Health" by Jordan S Rubin, N.M.D., and Joseph Brasco, M.D. This book is very informitive and geared towards IBS. I have taken some of the advice in this book and applied it towards my own stomach problems and am very thankful for it.
