Yes, unfortunately, I have fallen victim. I received a call 2 days ago that my debit card was compromised by some SOB's that are setting up fax to email accts all over the world. They have used my card to charge about $300 that I know of so far, all these weird fax accts.
SOO I have spent the last 2 days trying to contact companies that do not have ph #'s, only email addys to try & reverse charges.
The creeps had all my personal info, which unfortunately, in my business, my name, addy & ph # are on line because I am a real estate appraiser.
I am so bummed... I like to order essential oils, health items, seeds & of course books from Amazon.. I have subscribed to have Fraud protection with my Chase card(not the one hacked) cause they say they will cover all my accts & hubby's too. I looked into LifeLock, but the gal on the phone was Ahem... a bimbo
I will definitely be tryng not to use my debit card online anymore. This really bites cause I have made the committment not to use cc's anymore & now my debit card has fallen victim.
Cyber terror is so real. I heard a program today on local radio about how vulnerable the electirc grid is to hackers all over the world, including China & Russia. We are only a few clicks of the mouse away from our whole grid being damaged.
Sorry..don't mean to be a downer on Easter, but I have had a rough few days.
I guess I need a good old Lutheran pancake breakfast & a nice Easter service.. & get away from technology for a while..

That is terrible! I thought that your debit card was protected too, like a credit card. My bank is now Chase (who bought WaMu) and once I had a question about something and the man helping me on the phone asked me to make sure it was a fraud charge and if so, they would reverse the charge. Maybe they don't do that anymore. I only use debit cards, cash and checks too, no credit cards.

Yep, toss down a few pancakes with plenty of syrup and you'll be good to go!

i'm sorry for your troubles, lisa. that must be extreamly disheartening. in the past month, two of my friends at church have been victims of identiy theft. its to the point that the only place i use my debit card is at the bank to with draw cash. they risk doesn't seem to be worth the convenience. i hope everthing works out for you.

No, Lisa! I hate that this happened to you...it happened to me about 2 years ago, by way of Citibank bill pay. Someone highjacked my information and charged items to our checking account totalling about $300.00...it's what they do, because they don't want it to be TOO evident. I was really troubled by it all...made me wonder if they knew where I lived, whatever, but they were from Russia. So, no chance that they would care.

I am so very sorry and hope you get it all worked out. My bank (PNC) refunded all my money, which I found to be very nice. I didn't expect that, for sure.

That is horrible, Lisa!

Paypal has a debit card and of course Paypal has lots of security built in. You might want to look into that for your online shopping. That is about the only way I shop online any more. I know that if I get my identity stolen, Paypal will refund the money.

Thanks for letting me whine!
My credit union is being very helpful; they will refund all charges once all charges have been processed; I guess on some there is a period of a hold time. In the meantime, I am contacting the companies individually to have them reverse charges. I got another call last night from some fax company. Whoever these losers are, they are into fax to email accts. & yes it is scary that my name & phone number are readiliy available on the internet. Even if I change my company name, that old listing will still be out there.
Oh well, time to forget about that for now & try to enjoy the weekend. Thanks girls!

Sorry for your trouble. I guess anyone could have this happen. I buy on line a fair amount and have been lucky. This makes me want to see what kind of coverage I have.

Lisa, I hear you loud and clear. I have a problem too BUT, I think my problem is my own fault. I just couldn't stand it anymore and ordered, on line, a CD that would tell me how to get a government grant to start a business, or what ever. What started out to be $1.98 has now cost me over $100 and still going. I have been in contact with my credit card co... In fact they contacted me first. I have (according to the charges) subscribed to a number of things including a porn web site. I have put a hault on my credit card. I cannot change credit card acct # because they told me that because I authorized the charges that even a changed # will be charged. I use this card a lot. Mostly because I get $$ for using it. It is with Cabela's and I can buy stuff from Cabela's with my $$. Now I can't use it at all until this is cleared up. But, will it ever???

Oh, by the way, The CD about the government grants is a joke also. Don't tell you a thing. That is what you have to subscribe to. Since I have paid for a month's subscription, I took a look. STILL, dosen't tell you anything. Total SCAM !!!!!

If I want something bad enough I will E-mail or call and tell them what I want, but that I will not use a credit card or a depit on the computer. I tell them I will mail a check and they always give me my order. Remember they want you to buy from them so they will wait for the paper check in the mail. It may take a little longer but thats o.k.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.
