My neighbor sort of down the block came over this afternoon and asked if I would teach her to spin!! I told her that of course I would, although I don't know how good a teacher I will be. There are just NO teachers (or many spinners) around here. I am excited that she asked. Her in-laws own a small ranch and raise alpacas south of town about 5 miles. She wanted to pay me to teach her and I said I would love to trade for some raw alpaca wool. She loved that idea. So...soon, probably next week, we will start doing some spinning on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Should be fun. I am excited to have another spinnner in the area. Our own Libbie called to tell me that she has been successfully spinning her first yarn and I am hoping she can bring her wheel up and spin with me soon too.

Oh how neat! Maybe this can grow into teaching full classes to spin in the future ;) I visited an alpaca farm as part of a 'field trip' my local yarn shop held, and I fell in love with alpacas!

How great! Alpaca yarn is so lovely, I can't imagine spinning it. My friend Georgeanne tried to teach me to spin years ago, I couldn't do it, but I love the homespun yarns, they are so beautiful. I look forward to seeing pictures of all this spinning activity on your blog.

That is exciting Jenny! How fun :) Alpacas sure are cute. There are quite a few Alpaca and Llama ranches in my area.

Yes, Monica!!!! I did spin up the cotton you sent and love it!! And I havn't finished the blue streak yet..I plan to get on that this weekend. I honestly havn't spun much the past couple months..I have soooooo been in knitting mode. I will be shearing my sheep soon though (if it would every stop snowing on every day I plan to shear!) so I know it is the time of year to get in fiber mode again. I want to get something fun (ragg socks I think) knitted with the blue streak...it it yummy.

How fun! That is so great to share a lovely tradition and craft! I would like to learn someday. I am a knitter and I just learned to crochet this past year. I love fiber crafts and such. It is also my dream to own a farm with alpacas on it for spinning. :)

Aunt Jenny, I still want to see pics of the blue streak! I am glad you liked the cotton! I think it is neat to spin! It is a short draft, but it really has a nice feel to it! I am going be listing some cotton ready to spin on etsy, hopefully tomorrow! I had to get all of the bags of cotton out of hubby's van so I need to clear some of it out!

This sounds so exciting, I have never had the urge to spin but it would be fascinating to watch. I love to knit and someday soon I would like to find some Alpaca to knit. Know anyone? Have fun!

Hey my ears where burning in the barn. Two more sweet baby Angora goats born - a boy and a girl. Was wondering why in this bitter cold my ears where hot.

Aunt Jenny is one of my great yarn customers - I am blessed with such wonderful folks. You know once you start teaching you can't stop... I love teaching folks to spin - Ask Monica I love getting people addicted to spinning. Aunt Jenny you will be a marvelous teacher because you love spinning and yarn. I can not wait to hear of your adventures - I just finished teaching a lady in Brazil to spin thru emails. She is now spinning with soy silk and my silk cocoons.

Keep those fingers moving ladies because I will have some fantastic fiber awaiting you - soon those marvelous Cashmere and Angora kids will be getting a hair cut.

ooooooooh Cashmere...that is one I have wanted to try for sure Grace!!
And Hey...I totally recomend Grace's yarns for sure...I LOVE her alpaca yarn for socks. I have been so pleased with all I have bought. I gifted my future daughter in law with enough to knit a pair of socks on her birthday too and she loved it as well.
I bet those new babies are so sweet Grace! I remember when my little Pearl came home..she fit into a boot box she was so little! She was a preemie and her mom rejected her so I got her from a farmer friend who was in the middle of haying..she didn't have the time for a bottle baby right then... She is so spoiled and silly and is my cow Mona's very best friend.
I will be watching for that new fiber for sure!! Looks like snow here again..so I wonder how long they will wait for haircuts!
Can't wait to start the new gal spinning next week! Thanks for all your encouragement gals!

I will warn you all, Grace is the best at getting people addicted to spinning and it's easy because she has some of the most incredible fiber!! I was spinning some merino/silk blend that I got from her into embroidery thread earlier today and it was just a dream to spin!

Aunt Jenny, You will be a wonderful teacher because you love it so much! I hope you have a wonderful time!
