My husband has been home now over 2 months on sick leave. He's diabetic and had surgery. He's much better now but has a diabetic ulcer we're trying to get healed. If it weren't for that, he'd be back on the road by now.

So anyway, he had some blood work done last month and got the results back. The insc. company's nurse has been calling checking on him every few weeks and wanted to know the blood test results. She thought his cholesterol was a bit high and prescribed some chol. meds. She called his doc and they were supposed to call the pharmacy. But he does not want to take any more meds. He's on 3 diabetes meds, 2 blood pressure meds. plus on insulin temporarily.

So she calls back today and asked if he'd started the chol. meds and he said no. She asked why and he told her. She just would not leave it alone. Kept on and on. Told him what a risk it was and all the other stuff.

But good grief, can a person make up their own mind what they want to do? We are trying to change the way we eat. My chol. is high, too. 300. My doctor said I needed to be on meds and I said no. She did not force me to take them. She told me what I needed to be doing to help lower it naturally.

I know the nurses and doctors are all trained to be pushing all these meds now and most of them work for the pharmeceutical companys. Or have stock in them. They can't understand why people would not want to take them. But enough is enough already!

What do ya'll think? How do you feel about too many meds? I know there are more ways to deal with sickness besides taking more and more medication. And where do we draw the line? I just think all these meds make people sicker. Just my opinion.

Doctors need to learn to prescribe dieticians instead of medications, imo. I had to be FORCED to take a tylenol today to get rid of my fever!

Has your hubby tried using Stevia or xylitol to help in controlling his diabetes? I don't know a great deal about diabetes, only gestational as I am a midwife, but it seems to me that if they both work in GD, they'd work in regular diabetes.

Do you work in herbals or homeopaths at all?

I would much rather do alternatives. I have a book called Holistic Parenting by Lynn Wiese Sneyd. I got a lot of good ideas from her book. Like the termeric and aloe for cuts and sores. I use it on us and our animals. It's great.

We are taking fish oil to help lower cholesterol. He also uses agave nectar for some sweetener. He has tried stevia but did not like it. We are trying the low carb-high protien for him and it seems to be working on his blood sugar levels. It could be the farm fresh eggs and raw whole milk that's raising the chol. I could use more egg whites and see if that helps. I can't drink skim milk. Too much like water.

Even his diabetes nutritionist is ok with the way he eats. She said if it's working, keep doing it. But she had not heard of that yet. Strange. We got that from a friend who's husband has diabetes. He uses whole milk everything. Pure cream. Ice cream. Lots of eggs with cream. No bread at all. Lots of meat and cheeses. Diabetes is a horrible disease.

I was on a beta blocker for high blood pressure, both my blood sugar and triglycerides went very high. Once she took me off the nets blocker, both came down to low normal levels.
I hope you can find a solution that works,
