I do a lot of redwork embroidery and lately have found it very difficult to locate a decent flour sack towel outlet that sells quality flour sack towels at a bulk price. You know....the nice hemmed on four sides and thick flour sack towels?
Today, I came across a Medical site that sells Huck towels. Anyone out there ever embroider on Huck? (that's Swedish isn't it) and if so how did it go as far as iron on transfers?
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you ladies!

I've never tried the ones from Wal-Mart, they just don't feel too great to me.
I purchase mjne at our local Big R feed store for $1.39 each :)

I bought some cotton towels from Target and they are better than the Wal-mart ones by far. They still are not finished all four sides though. Just the three no salvage edges. They also sell organic ones at Target but for what I am wanting to on them I didn't want the tan color. I believe I paid $6.99 for 6 white ones and the organic are the same price for 4.

Colonial patterns is carrying towels now but I think they have stripes and can't remember what the material was but I know one of the gals here did some beuatiful embroidery on them in a swap.

I used the towels from Colonial and was extremely happy with them, however, they are pricey compared with the thin white ones. I loved the stripes. You can view them on my blog. They had a tab on one corner but I removed it. We have a private fabric store here and they carry rolls of similar toweling in several colors that I thought was reasonible. I think I will try them next time, just for fun.

I thought huck toweling was a heavier weave than regular flour sack towels, it has been years since I have seen any, I think maybe I tried some many years ago in an attempt to do cross stitch, they are recommended for that, but I prefer regular embroidery. Walmart has a lot of things that are much cheaper in quality than other stores. I seldom get fabric there, it is often the lowest quality cotton fabric, low thread count, very stiff sizing. I try to avoid Walmart as much as possible. A lot of their merchandise is very poor quality. Sorry, probably not much help. I used to get flour sack toweling by the yard at a fabric store. They also sold a thick cotton toweling with stripes near the outer edges by the yard. You might check out any local fabric stores.

I have cross-stitched on huck towels and that was wonderful. I do not know if they would be great for embroidery.....there is a waeve that lends itself to cross-stitch.

Flour sack towels......
Found some!!! I bought one dozen heavyweight flour sack towels from TheTowelPace.com for $24.99 plus shipping $10.16 (49858) which comes to about 3.00 a towel, but they are sooooooooooooo worth it.
Very heavy, hemmed on all sides and you can just feel the quality in the towel. I can't wait to get started on some more REDWORK If you are going to put the effort into all that handstitching then you deserve to have a decent heavy weight flour sack !!!
