We went to our appointment to get the keys to our new rental house, but the landlords didn't show. So we called after waiting about 10 minutes. The landlady answered crying. She asked if we could re-schedule. Her brother just killed himself! I feel just horrible and told her of course! I also asked if she needed dinner tonight or if there was anything I could do.

We are supposed to re-schedule tomorrow sometime.

What would you do? Would you buy flowers, a card, or just be sympathetic? I don't really know the landlords all that well yet- I have only met him once and spoken to her on the phone. They seem like really fantastic people. Very caring and loving types.

My instinct is to want to jump in and try to ease this time for them in anyway- but at the same time I know that is in the "Wierd category" for anyone not a farmgirl in these days.

What would you do?

Bread...and a nice note. I have somehow discovered that baking for people whose spirits I would like to raise or help or comfort has always been well-received. Probably people will be coming by to see her/them. Maybe a basketful of muffins, rolls or cookies would be handy for her to have on hand for visitors?

What a sad situation!!!!

XOXO, Libbie

How sad, Alee. You are sweet to even think like that. Most people would not even bother if they didn't know them. But you have a very kind heart. I hope you are able to get into your new house soon.

Thanks ladies! I just don't want to be the "creepy" lady. Ya'know. I have some bananas so I think I will make a double batch of banana bread and maybe some cookies and some muffins.

I just spoke with my landlord and he said his wife is a bit inundated with food at the moment. So I am going to hold off for now and just try to be the most low-key tenant for them so they can have time to start the healing process.

Alee sounds like you moved just in time to help them. Listen to her/him. In the near future when they feel the need to talk it always helps just to listen. Banana bread is also great to recieve anytime. How sad

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

I know! I feel so bad for them! I am so grateful that they chose us to rent from them from all the people who turned in applications (like 10!). So we are going to strive to be the best possible tenents.
