Hi all,
I am new here and have soo much to read up on...my burning question is this:
I have my own biz. and I am very creative. I know that I can design my own website banners and soap labels, but I need some advice on to which computer program to purchase to do it in. My soap labels are great right now, and I get alot of positive feedback, but I want them to be better. I am currently just making them in Microsoft Works Word Proccessing Program and need much more bells and whistles.
Any advice? thanks!

Hi Shannon! I don't have any advice for you, but I just wanted to say that I checked out your blog and it is great! I saw a couple of your soaps that I may have to try when my current supply runs out. Your mechanic soap sounds like it would be just right for my husband. Technically, he is a farmer, but that does require alot of mechanic-ing! I think your calendula would be great, too. Lots of exczema and sensitive skin in this family!

Welcome to the Farm, by the way. I hope someone can help you!

Hi Shannon,

Welcome!!! I use Microsoft Publisher to do my soap labels. Some of the gals on my soap list use Print Shop. Your site is very nice and your soaps look so pretty!

If you are really going to get into it invest in Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements(cheaper, fewer options), they are the gold standard.

You can get free trials here:

Pioneer woman has a good tutorial on banners in photoshop:

Hi Shannon,

I think your current banner and label look great! Like Mandy though, I do recommend Photoshop for any kind of design work. And she's right, PW always has great tricks for all kinds of stuff with that program. Personally, I use Macromedia Fireworks. It's basically the same program, but it's compatible with Dreamweaver, a handy thing if you're using it to design your website.

Good luck!

Thank you for the compliments. I do make my own lables, and they are fine, I get alot of compliments on them, but wanted to jazz them up a bit. I had someone else do the website banner for me, although I know that I can do it, I just need a program to do it in.
I'll look into Photoshop and the other prgrams recommended.
thank you all!

I vote for photoshop as well but it is an expensive program. It will do just about anything. The elements program is cheaper but doesn't do as much. Either one is very good. Good luck.
