Does anyone remember the natural deadorant stones? I used them in my early 20's but that has been a while back. Can anyone tell me where I might get one? |

Are you meaning the mineral salt stone/sticks? I use one and I love it. I get mine either at a health/herb store or I've found them at walgreens and sometimes at walmart.

I remember hearing about them but I have never used one before If you try it let me know if you like it or not. I will look into it next time I go to the store. I wonder how expensive it is? |

Do those really work? I've always wanted to try one but I was afraid they were just a gimmick and didn't really work.

Guess what? After I posted, my husband came in with my copy of the Mountain Rose Herbs catalogue.(Found the ad in the SIMPLY Bee). There it is at the bottom of page 67 for $4.90. I think I will order and patronize the advertisers that help keep the cost of our magazine down. Many, many thanks for the responses and suggestions. Let's all report on how we fair with this alternative to chemical anti-perspirants

They work great as a deodorant, however they are not an antipersperant so you still sweat if you're a sweater. I figure sweating is the bodys natural way of cooling anyhow. You can also use them on your feet as a deodorant too.

I just tried making a deodorant this weekend. So far it works great and no perspiration. Here is the recipe:
Homemade Deodorant
Ingredients: Coconut oil baking soda arrowroot powder or cornstarch
Combine equal portions of baking soda & arrowroot powder. I use about 1/4 cup each. Then slowly add coconut oil and work it in with a spoon until it maintains the substance you desire (I use approx 5-6 Tablespoons). It should be about the same texture as the store bought kind. Place in a small container with lid and apply with fingers with each use. After applying the product, you can just rub the remains into your hands as a lotion!

Sounds interesting, do you melt the coconut oil first? Sounds like you don't.

Michele,
Mine actually liquified due to the temps in our house so I just measured and mixed. I let it harden and it has stayed solid. If this continues to work for me I want to try adding some Lavender Essential Oil or Tea Tree Oil to it.

Sharon,
Thanks for sharing the recipe. Since I live in Texas I will need something to control perspiration in the hot summer. I think I'll try the stone in the Winter and your idea in the Summer. Anything to avoid the chemicals. Thanks again for sharing.

hi all, i believe that sweating is a good thing, there are so many lymph nodes in the armpit area that are actually filters for toxins, fluid exchange, etc. so let all that stuff come out whenever possible. the natural deodarants are great because they negate the smell but still allow you to sweat. so sweat whenever possible. i hope to be sweating soon in my garden but it is 30 degrees here. cathy
