Hi! Three days ago I "found" Mary Jane's book at the library, paged through it for a few minutes before checking it out, went immediately to the local bookstore to order my own copy, and then went home and devoured the library's copy! And now I'm here.

I live in Southeast Missouri, about 2 hours south of St. Louis on the Mississippi River. I'm married to a country boy, but unfortunately we live in a medium-sized town right now. We have 2 children -- a son who is a freshman at Ole Miss and a daughter who is a sophomore in high school. We have 2 dogs and a koi pond, but I can't wait for the day we live on our own acreage and have many more animals.

I'm a secondary English teacher, and I also teach composition courses one or two nights a week at least one semester a year at the University here in town. I love to read, scrapbook, wander around antique/junk stores and attend auctions, do crafts, and generally enjoy the life God's given me. I look forward to getting to chatting with you ladies!

Patti

Thanks, ladies, for the warm welcome. I'm having such a great time reading all the threads here that I just realized it's getting late and I still need to get some papers graded! Thankfully, I have the weekend free -- the house is clean and after I grade this last hour's papers I'm done -- so I'll be back tomorrow evening.

Welcome Patti!
MJ's book is wonderful, isn't it? I "found" it at the bookstore and sat for quite some time paging through it. My birthday was coming up so I made sure to put it on my list! So glad to have found it because it led me to all these wonderful gals! Can't wait to hear more about you and your life!

Much love,
Laura

Hey Patti
Welcome, we are pretty close to one another. I am pretty close to New Madrid, that is where my children go to school. I was an assistant preschool teacher for 4 years and special education for 2 years before I decided to stay home. Welcome and I look foward to talking more with you.

Hi, Patti,
Welcome to the FarmGirl Connection. I am a SE MO girl, too. A little misplaced as I presently reside in Affton, MO (suburb of STL near South County). I grew up in Perry County and we have a farm on the east end (Farrar). Our son is an art teacher in the Jackson school district having just graduated from SEMO this December. What a small world, I have been waiting for a long time for someone from this area to sign on and my prayers have been answered. Not to slight all the other wonderful ladies I have met through the forum, but, WOW, someone in my own backyard and stompin grounds, I'm excited.

It's been far to long since I've last posted, so most probably won't remember me, but I have been reading and keeping up as much as I can and tonight I'm joining in and so glad that I did to find you on the Welcome Wagon.

I hope you find this as homey as living in SE MO. It sure does make dreaming of being back on the farm a lot closer to reality as I learn from what everyone here has to say and all the wisdom and experiences they are willing to share. It is pure joy to have you here and I can't wait to hear more from you.

Blessings to you.

In His hands,
Lynda

Lynda,
Talk about a small world! I work with your son!! I'm at the Junior High (I teach LAI and Advanced LAI) and he's here in the afternoons (Middle School in the mornings, I think). I don't think he knows who I am because we're at opposite ends of the building -- almost literally. I have talked to him a few times, and just last week saw him in the hall and asked him how it was going.

Also, my husband works at P & G, too! He's an electrician in the "new plant". What does your husband do out there? I cannot believe the connections in real life yet we meet in an online chat room. Unbelievable! Also, my mom is from Perryville (graduated from PHS in 1942, I believe), and my son's two best friends' parents are from Perryville. I'll respond to your email and share their last names there; you probably know the parents.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I look forward to getting to know you, too, and maybe someday meeting you in person!
