During these trying financial times there are many people in need of warmth and comfort. Providing these things is something Farmgirls are great at!

Anyone want to join me in a Crochet/Knit-Along for charity? I'd love to see how many blocks we could get done! They only need be 7" x 9". . . we could whip out a bunch, girls! Here is the website http://www.warmupamerica.org/home.html Let's see how many we can get done by April 1, 2009! The final deadline is set! Please have your blocks to me by April 25 to be included in the Farmgirl Blanket for Warm-Up America! Thanks so much!

If you haven't time to crochet or knit, perhaps you have yarn to contribute?

You can drop off blocks at most Michael's stores, or send to me to join together.

Sign up on here and we'll tally up once a week!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! She's all done! I LOVE this blanket made by Farmgirls! Seriously, it just feels SO wonderful. Really, I want one! It has a very satisfying weight to it (if your a blanket girl, you know what I mean). I edged it with 3 rounds of single crochet in Natural. The blanket will be taken to the donation site this weekend. I am so very honored and humbled to work on such a wonderful project with such wonderful ladies! Thank you again!

Theresa...count me in but I have some questions. These blocks are 7 inch by 9 inch and they can be crocheted? Any stitch? Are we supposed to sew them together or are you doing that? Definitely put my name in the ring. I have made afghans before so I think I can do this. Any particular stitch hold it's shape better? Thanks for this....I had been looking to do chemo caps or something to contribute and then there you were! The universe listens! Thank you for taking the iniative! You go Gir1friend! Do we mail them to you when we get a certain amount done? Does it matter if they are all different? Again...thank you for this opportunity.

Sandra (or Sam, which do you prefer?),

Thank you for joinin' up! Any stitch you'd like to do is fine. In fact, it's a great way to try out some new stitches you've been wanting to tackle. I just did a block in a basketweave stitch, new to me and quite a fun end result! Of course the old faithfuls work just perfectly as well. One that works up pretty quickly is rotating rows of single and double crochet.

We can choose to either send in our individual blocks to Warm Up America or send them all my way and I can stitch 'em together and photograph them. What does everyone think on that? One of the fun things about the project is that they end up being a bit of a hodge podge of love from people who care. They'd never win a contest, but each would be unique.

It's up to you Theresa...whatever you want us to do. I just appreciate you initiating this and great idea about trying ut new stitches! Thanks for the advice! I better get to work so I can "stitch" tonight! I'll keep you updated on my progress. I think I'll email my daughter too...she's a knitter and although she's very busy I'm sure she would probably partake. Thanks again so much.

Theresa - what a good idea, should this be in worsted weight? I can commit myself, will talk to the other member of my chapter to see if she wants to do some. I have a long airline flight coming so that would be perfect. Will we send them to you, then you send them on?

Welcome Ladies!

Worsted/medium weight is perfect, but I also think a bulky or lightweight could have a place too. Basically whatever you want to work with. If you use a "special care" yarn, like wool for instance, it would need to be paired with other similar blocks for ease of care. If anyone wants to use a baby yarn, we'll just try to get enough to piece into a baby blanket (they need those too).

I think it would be great to see the end result of the blanket stitched by Farmgirls. So, everyone who wants to can send there finished blocks to me. I will piece them together and get some photos before sending them on.

I would love to do some blocks too..I visited the site and the shadow blocks knitting pattern looks like a fun one to try. I have some extra worsted weight wool to use. Should I use acrylic instead, or will wool be okay??? I can get acrylic if that would be better. Maybe I can get my daughter to work on a garter stitch block.

Jenny,

Wool is fine, if we don't have enough of the wool blocks to form a full blanket we can just make a lap throw or send in the individual blocks.

Thanks for joining us!

I just read on the Warm Up America site that they use 49 blocks for a full size afghan. We'd better get busy! I think it'd be fun to get a complete blanket!

I only have 1 1/2 at this time...was going to finish up the 1/2 tonight....have a question...i have several very small blankets that i was going to send to a location somewhere (had not decided where) would you like those? they are mainly baby blankets (some 13" square, some 22" square) so they could be made larger as needed...
would be glad to donate them to this instead...

Great to have you join us, Nancy Jo! These block needn't be fancy unless you want them to be. You could do a straight knit stitch the whole way through if you want.
