Okay ladies -here we go. Partners are posted - we are shooting to have these in the mail by April 1st. Please e-mail your partner to exchange addresses etc. I haven't had time to put my pattern into word so I can e-mail it and I am so sorry but I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow, just worked 8 days straight, so I won't have time to do it till I get back on 3/12. Please check out the tutorials that have been listed, if you don't find something you like e-mail me again and I will send you the pattern when I get back ( so sorry ladies, just one of those months) Happy sewing everyone - have fun, and thanks for playing:) Oh and we had an uneven number so I'm doing two.

Here are the partners: (remember I used screen names:))

Amy Grace, I would love to try this. I need to get back to sewing and this may be the push I need. And I love reusable shopping bags, too.

http://tipnut.com/35-reusable-grocery-bags-totes-free-patterns/ Lots of links, including some for crochet and knit bags, some are free. I purchased the first pattern listed last year and have used it over and over again. Halfway through a crochet grocery bag right now.

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=177482.0

Hope these help!

I have a question. If anyone has cats and buys Purina cat chow, it now comes in a woven type plastic bag. And I have to get the biggest bag with 6 cats. I wonder if anyone has tried making a tote out of them? I hate to just throw them away because they will not ever decompose. And I think this might work. But someone with more creativity would have to figure it out. I think it would be cute with a big ole cat on it. And very study, too.

Amy, can someone that's not very good at sewing follow the pattern you have? I would like to do this, but I'm not the best machine sewer! If you will let me know the link to the pattern then I will see if I am capable of doing this. Thanks, Tammy

Best farm wishes

Kristen,

Look what I found. . .

http://www.curbly.com/stephee/posts/2064-Make-a-bird-seed-bag-grocery-tote-

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=18890932

I also saw a Messenger Bag style made from a cat food bag not long ago, think that was on Craftster (you need a free account to view). You can buy the woven nylon strap stuff at most good craft stores or online even.

Hope these help!

That is a cute bag. So I guess I'll have to try this. She did say to use a heavy duty needle in your machine, though. I'll have to hunt one down now. And get some sewwing lessons!!

Thanks for the link. I have it saved now.

I've just recently joined so I'm not sure if there are requirements such as length of membership or number of posts before participating in swaps.
If not, then I would love to join you all in this swap. Seems that I have found many like-minded farmgirl friends as I've been collecting tips and ideas for making these bags for the last couple of weeks. The swap would give me an excuse to make a few different types.LOL We have many livestock bags, similar to what Kristin described, and I've been thinking they would be good for this project.

Amy Grace, just let me know what the rules are, please.
In the meantime, I'm checking the links shared. I can practice and be ready for the next swap. Thanks for the links.

This scares me a bit since I'm a fairly new "sewer-by-machine" but I'm gonna jump in and at least try!!! I know I can come up with something (I hope my swap partner won't mind a "newby"!!! When is the deadline to have the bags finished?

Count me in!

Christine - hop on in, we are glad to have you!!
Tammy - the pattern I have is actually in a hard copy but pretty easy, all straight seams etc. I haven't checked out the links that have been posted but that is probably worth your while
Melissa - the deadline for having the bags in the mail is April 1st. I will post partners on March 1st
