Got a call last night with a frined who was trying to get rid of a rooster.
without hesitation I called back ,and as of this morning have a young and VERY handsome buff orpington.
I'm still searching for blue orps, but this guy will fit the bill intil then.
If some of you will recal, our "Big Boy" rescue from the chicken truck sadly died last summer. This new fella will hopefully be a good man to his ladies. and lets hope he is not a flogger
right now everyone is out, and he is in and making the cutest "come here baby" chicken sounds.
Stay tuned as we have new adventures about to begin
OH! and i also found out from the lady who dropped this guy off.. about a local frined who is big time into breeding bearded silkies!
YEa! I'll take a drive and see if we can talk turkey....er chickens! |

Ugh! If it's ROOSTERS you want, I have too many! I'm STILL finding them in my flock after I thought I'd gotten the right head count. As of right now I have EIGHT!!! (or maybe nine?!!) Too many for my poor hens to deal with, especially come Spring. Hopefully I will find someone who wants them for their girls. They are very handsome roosters! And not mean at all.
OH, and either "Cackle Hatchery" or "Strombergs" (Stromburgs?) has the BLUE Orpingtons you're looking for! I saw them in one of those catalogs. You can find them on-line too. Have fun with your new boy! ~~~ Tracy

Yes, more than 1 rooster for that many hens IS a bit much.
If I can only get a straight run of the blues, I may keep 2-3 just to vary the genetic line BUT enlist hubby to build a small chicken tractor "luv shak" where the bachelors will hang out until their services are needed.
i also have a few other bantam roosters. but they each have mates and really don't spar to the point of having to farm them out. |
